I just bought an electric traxxas stampede and I want to be able to do a wheelie from a stand still and I like to jump and crawl up stuff. Do I need to upgrade the motor and if so which one and what else do I need to use the new motor.

no, you dont need to upgrade the motro, you need aa smaller pinion gear and a bigger spur gear.

will using this gear ratio make my motor run hot, and won't I lose a lot of top end speed?

If you gear down you will have better bottom end power, but you will loose some top end speed.
If you want to upgrade your motor, I've had good luck with the Mag Mayhem. You could also buy a couple pinions for your truck, and see which one you like best.

I really like the speed gem pro motors with the p-94 brushes very long brush life the 17 turn should work with youre speed control and give a noticeable boost from stock

i have a 17 turn jaguar motor in my stampede and it made a huge difference, so a 17 turn speed gems would be an awesome thign to do . also u could put a esc in it. something like a novak explorer should do fine. i have a lrp runner and have had alot of trouble with it.
