TK20, the EK-4 V2, is basically the same truck with emphasis on the V2 being the key. The V2 equates to "Version 2", which has the upgrades that the earlier version did not. If you are looking to buy an EK, just make sure it's a V2. Even tho the V2 has the upgrades that the earlier version didn't, there is still room for considerable aftermarket upgrades. Hope this helps.

As for rock climbing, I'd go with the Mad Force. The EK isn't geared for it, plus the ground clearance isn't there, nor is there any articulation and it would require major re-designing to gain the necessary articulation. For speed, the EK with a 2-spd should be able to get 50+mph!

Go with the Mad Force im not saying that the EK4 is a bad truck but the mad force is a bit easier and it has a pullstart.
Plus the engine in the RCX is a os21 rg-x(p) its an quality engine.
But if it is power your after then the ek is better but its harder to start.

madmaniac, I agree going with Mad Force, 'specially for rock climbin'. As for the EK, it's NOT harder to start than any other engine. I had an EK a couple of years ago and it started most every time within a few seconds. I still have this engine and it's mounted in Pie Wagon. The only difference in this engine is that it's ringed, which will require a whole different break-in procedure. Other than that, it's an excellent engine and reliable...IF it's mantained.

Hmm you got a point there but another thing is that the damn 12 v battery didnt hold for so long so if you didnt get the engine started on the 5th or 8th time you had to recharge it.
I paid 1100$ for my ek 4 with all the accessories thats expensive but i live in Sweden all rc stuff is expensive here[:'(]

I'd go with the RCX. Kyosho makes quality vehicles and I've heard some not-so-nice-things said about the EK-4 by some owners who are my friends. Getting parts will be a problem with either truck though.

i can get parts for the ek-4.
i dunno about the RCX.

Thanks.

but does any one own one around here?
the suspention is weird, can it take a bump on on side of the truck without lifting the wheel from the otherside?

Thanks in advance!

Have you thaught about taking the starter probe out of the cone and installing the starter probe on to a cordless drill. Works perfect and it frees up a hand to put nicad on

I don't know why some of you madforce owners think the suspensions so great. Is it your 1st monster truck and you never had another truck to compare it to? Mad Force suspension just dont have enough suspension travel to be any good. The 1 peice accel limits the travel. And i gotta aggree with nitro 4-tech, The Mad Force does look like a toy up close. Well most of Koyshos products do, it just looks cheep. I'm not saying it is cheep, the Mad Force is a good truck and is pretty durable too. Just my opinions.

From someone who has no desire to get a MadForce, I gotta say your way off, and Captain Spelling must point out that it's 'AXLE", not "accel", something that makes you think of 'accelerator' more than the thing that connects the wheels!

REAL MONSTER TRUCKS ALL HAVE SOLID AXLES, so it's everyone else who's 'wrong' by calling independent susp. trucks "monsters"!!

And while TRAVEL isn't as big, ARTICULATION is much better (those pics where 3 wheels are planted and one is on top of a beer can...THAT'S articulation!) which is why pretty much ALL rock climbers are solid axled!!

I for one have no interest in rock climbing, but that's me. I also think the MadForce is overpriced (my god, I JUST saw a used RCX on consignment at my LHS for $1400...what the hell could he have done to it??).

So you really can't refer to this truck in any way as not "any good".....there are lotsa rock climbers who could say that about YOUR truck....and they'd be correct!!

is it possible to mount bigger wheels and tires onto ek4? are there some between 7 and 8 inch???
because the ek4 hasn't got so much ground clearance

Finding anything for my EK-4 is not easy. I broke a wheel and my local shop owner ordered a new set of stock ones for ACE along with many other parts that I needed like rear wheel bearings that are 8 by 16 mm and the rear ones need lots of checking. The only set of wheels that I can find are from Ofna that fit there Dominator but they have a one inch off set from the center and have fun trying to turn it. just get some lower profile tires if you can find some. I just use the stockers because they fit. wo

For what it's worth I have found a way to start all my trucks and cars. I use a 12v 175 am lawnmower battery and a 1/2 incn drill with and inverter and shaft starts systems. Even my EK-4 starts in seconds with this system. Yes it is a lot to throw into the back of my pickup but it starts anything and quickly. wo
