Default getting back into it--recommend me a truck

i've been out of the hobby for about 10 years and i'm excited to get back into it. i think i'd like to get either the titan twin, the Thunder Tiger EK4 S2 or the mad force.

this truck will just be used for bashing around. the terrain will be a combination of flat land and rugged hills--all dirt of course!

things i'm looking for:

good acceleration--top end isn't as crucial but of course i won't shy away from it.

moderate handling--nothing that flips at every turn, but i don't need on-rails handling (i think this is obvious since i'm getting a large MT)

good parts availability--my first r/c vehicle was a mauri ninja and parts were impossible to get so this has shaped all of my future r/c purchases

run time of roughly 15 minutes (is that reasonable? i don't know anymore)

if you could point me to reviews or give me personal opinions, that would be great

thank you in advance

Well the thunder tiger parts will be hard to find. I think that the twin titan and mad force are close to the same speed. I know that the twin titan has mad acceleration because i have seen vids of it. But it does flip very easy. I think the mad force is your best bet. All of those vehicles are some what of wat you want but the mad force is probably the way to go. The mad force is more of a rock crawler instead of jumper. Have you looked into the associated mgt,hpi savage, or XTM mammoth?

It sounds to me the truck your looking for is the Savage. It is extremely durable, great low end, and a decent top end as well. It handles very well especially with some ofset rims and you can jump over just about anythnig you want. Oh and parts I don't think there is anything on this truck that you can't find.

thanks for the fast responses. i've done some more research and i think the thunder tiger is out b/c of possible parts issues.

thanks to the suggestions i took a look at the savage and the mammoth--they look like awesome vehicles. i think i like the savage 25 over the mammoth and both over the mad force

sooo i think it comes down to either the savage SS or the twin titan. it might be a pain trying to get two engines in synch, but that roughly 5hp is calling to me. oth, the savage seems to be extremely durable, easier to maintain and still has good low end.

i think i'll have to go "kick the tires" and check them out at my local shops but i'd certainly appreciate any other thoughts.

the thunder tiger has only been out 4 a couple months.......there are parts u just have to look. ebay is a good source, type in monster gt and youll see. rpm, gpm, rcsolutions, tower, hobbytron, there all there. rc dinball also. also try newera models. u might have trouble at a lhs, but order em, they will be in in a few days. its practiclay a brand new truck and i personally think its giving alot of other trucks a run for there money. people get all defensive when they see a truck doing well compared to their own. nope its not the fastest but it is durable and it has that thunder tiger name. why did grampa buy that john deer?? the name duh. im sure there will be lots of parts available soon from other manf. t-maxx and savage are like toes everbodys got em, ya know?

i recommend savage, mine got ran over by a slow moving truck, just bent my roll bar and broke throttle linkage

stock engine simple to tune, its a decent all around motor, i get about 35-30 mins of runtime

parts availability is almost up to the T-Maxx

30 minutes???????? I find that very very hard to believe. More like 15 minutes or less. The savage is hard to work on and its not all that user friendly. The engine is on the hard side to tune good for a beginner but i dont htink you are a beginner are you? The mammoth is alot faster than the savage and handles much better. But the savge has more low end torque.

i think my 30 min runtime is due to the weather last week, it was like 60-70 out and was ideal...... but now its down in the 40s, 50s and runtime, has been like 25, plus ground is bit mushy here since it snowed harder work for motor

and the big draw back to savage is its radio box... u do have to take off a lot of screws to get to something, but its design is what makes it so durable.... so imo its worth the time

ok, after even more research and thinking i have refined my final list:

savage ss
losi LST
molzer 1/6 MT

everybody speaks highly of the savage so i have to check that one out. if it is somewhat difficult to tune, that doesn't bother me as i've got plenty of experience.

i am a long time fan of losi's products--i purchased the jrx2 when it first came out well over a decade ago and have always been pleased with their products.

molzer racing is about 15 minutes from where i live. i called them up and they were very friendly. they were actually headed to a track friday night and invited me to meet them there; they were going to have the MT out running around. unfortunately i couldn't make it, but when i get a chance to play around with it i'll give a full report.

i looked at the cen genesis too but i prefer the lst over it.

thank you all for your opinions!

Monster GT or Savage
My only complaint about the Sav is that it's a pain to work on, but it's built like a tank.
The MGT is a great all-around truck.
I have a Marder, but I wouldn't recommend a 1/5 or 1/6 scale. 1/8s are a lot more fun.
The Mammoth is great too, but it's a speed demon...not built so much for torque.

in what way is the savage a pain to work on?

why do you think a 1/8 is more fun than a 1/6 or 1/5?

i'd rather sacrifice 10mph or so of top end to get better low end. 40mph is still plenty fast. plus i know i'll get the itch to modify and will eventually replace the engine and the gearing. so i think i'd prefer the better durability of the savage over the mgt or mammoth

#1 pain of a savage?
survey says!!!
radio box

and for other things, you'll spend sometime taking off screws, to get to something small
it seems tedious, but it is a tank.... for the hell i've put mine through, the extra amount of time needed to disassemble is well worth it

The Savage SS is about $50.00 less than the Savage 25, but keep in mind it doesnt include a radio for that price. The 25 includes a 3 channel. If you do buy the SS, consider buying a 3 channel over a 2 channel. If you decide to add reverse at some point, you will need that 3rd channel.

Also the savage 25 has the 3 shoe clutch where as the ss has only a 2 shoe. ALso the 25 has the roto start where as the ss has a pullstart. I say Savage 25 or XTM mammoth. The mammoth will be easier to work on also. Much easier
