Has anyone ever toyed with the idea of puting a small diesel engine in a monster truck? It would have to be a rock crawler though b/c diesels cant reach high rpms but they are torque kings. Liquid cooled because a air cooled diesel is just imposiable. Thats a lot to fit in a small scale but hey bigger is better right? i think all could fit in a 1/6 scale. Tell me what you guys think. BTW i am a future diesel technician so i am pritty knolageable. Mmmm torque[>:]

i just checked out the davies site...i wonder what they sound like? it it's anything like a full-size diesel then that would rule in a r/c MT. seeing as how the rpm ranges are still high, i doubt it would though.

davies fuel is about $22/gal. even if runtimes really are 50% longer it would still be generally cheaper to go w/ glo fuel.

Not sure where you are buying fuel, but my LHS gets $29-30 / gallon. $22 sounds pretty good.

is it air cooled... it has to run hot. that much heat in a standard glo engine will probably ruin it pritty fast... i think a pourpose build diesel would be better

that is a bit much for the fuel i am talking pure diesel power... like $2.00 a gal and diesels get twice the gas milage of a gasoline engine... how sweet would that be. Thats kool its out there and available though

diesles use heat to run. they have so much trorqe because they have to have alot of compression to heat up the fuel enough to explode. i also dont know where you guys are buying your glow fuel because my lhs sells it for $20 gallon for o'donnel. as far as i know o'donnel is the best.

but if you look carefully (took me a 2nd viewing to notice), they'll provide the formula for the fuel if you live outside the u.s. i bet somebody here has the formula so you could probably brew your own out of kerosene, oil and some ether.

Yeah your dreams are correct!!
Diesels run MUCH leaner than glow engines.. and apparently because of the increased lubricty of the fuel (30% castor oil), the engine lasts FOREVER!!!

And yes.. torque is also higher. But remember that this isnt exactly a "diesel". Its just compression ignition without a glow plug.
Even these diesels are pretty efficient.. but why the heck would you say you have to liquid cool it??
Normal diesels have very high exhaust temperatures but all that isnt an issue here. This stuff runs primarily on ETHER.

A glow engine runs on compression and the glow element very much like a diesel engine and we don't have that much of a problem with heat as long as we let the airflow get to the head. I don't know why you guys think that it would run so much hotter. Those conversions have been around for decades, I first heard about them in the late 80's and they were old news back then.

im paying $42 per gallon of fuel im medicine hat,and ive decided to try making a tractor pull diesel out of what ever cheap used MT i can find.keep the ideas coming.ill try making a diesel out of a HPI 2.5 engine or something and get it a peter-built body,tractor pull tires,and a place on my shelf,and im set.

I think what would be awesome would be to have a small 3 cylinder purpose built diesel engine with a real injection pump, and injectors(no carbeurator). You could have 3 glow plugs on it, and some kind of transmission that was made specifically for it, so that it worked well, even at low rpm's. I have a real diesel(hence my user name), and the torque is just unbeatable. It is hopped up some, and has 635ft lbs of torque at the wheels! It will only turn 2900rpm's in park with your foot through the floorboard, but that aint what the guy in the gasser behind you is worried about when you come rolling by him, and he cant see you for all the black smoke[8D]. I love my diesel. I wish they did make a diesel MT, but it probably aint gonna happen.
