Cen mt2 spur gear problem!!!!!
I was driving my mt2 and 1/4 of my 2nd gear got stripped. I have no clue how this happened. I bought a 38t spur gear when I first bought the truck but realised that you have to get a different pinion gear to go with this. I am going to buy a stock spur gear instead. What is the stock 1st gear tooth number? If I were to leave the 38t spur gear on there whick pinion gear would I need to get? As I replaced the gear, I realised that when I spun the 1st gear the wheels didnt spin, but they did when I spun the 2nd gear. Is this right? Please help!!!!!

Once you recevie the new parts, slide a note card or some think paper between the gears and roll it back and forth. If the gears still have room to move with the paper in it, tighten the gears up this should fix your problem.
I am not sure about the numbers, Mecky33 will probably find that for you if he reads this post. I would but I need to run to the store.

ok thanks. The thing was though, my 1st gear didnt get stripped and I was hardly in 2nd gear cause I was jumping in the dirt. Im guessing a rock hit it. DO u know the stock first gear teeth # and which pinion gear to get w/ the 38t 2nd gear? Also, how do you tighten the gears?

RE: Cen mt2 spur gear problem!!!!!
bonified5, the stock numbers are 47t for first and 44t for second. The 38t is for the Cen TR4 and Cen CT4S/R. The 38T will be a poor choice for the MT2 because of the severe lack of torque with that gear. But if you decide to run it anyway you will need an 18T pinion gear.
Also, I have posted a procedure on how to check gear mesh. Do a search and if you absolutely cant find it, email me and I will send it to you.

Nope first gear is the larger of the two. Second gear is the smaller gear with the stand off ring and the shift catch. Trust me, I have had my tranny out more times than I care to mention. I also have the same trans set up on my TR4.

Its alright, when I first started with my truck I got pretty confused myself. Heck the other day I ordered a second gear for the TR4 and accidently ordered a gear for the truck instead.
