Default BUYING for a NEWB

Hey guyz. I'm completely new to the R/C community. never even owned one since Christmas when I was 8. I was planning on buying a nitro Mammoth due to the many read forums in here. Can anyone help with whatever else is needed? My budget is about $1,000. Your help is much appreciated.

What I mean by what is needed is WHAT DO I NEED??? i.e.fuel, starter, etc.

And that's all huh? Any recommendations for another off road truck??? Just out of curiosity. I live in Arizona in the mountains? Is there anything else or something different I need to get for elevation or anything? I'm at about 7,500 feet.

I'm gonna keep you busy with my posts, but I do appreciate your help. Anyhow, a noticed a lot of those brackets/mods are listed for an XTM X-Terminator. Is that basically teh same design? Also, if I replaced all original hardware with the new, will that have an effect on the speed? For instance, slowing it down?
