Default What's the best stand for starting your truck?

What do you use for a stand to start your truck on when you are on the road? I have a place to start mine at my house, but when ever I take it somewhere I am always searching for a place to set it (so the wheels don't touch the ground). I am fairly new to this hobby so I don't really know what's available.

thanks in advance.

I just took to small 1in thick boards and nailed a 2x4 in between them. It works great!

I never thought that storing your truck 'un-sprung' would be important, much less worrying about it for STARTING!!! Unless you use a box, doncha just plop your truck on the ground & letter rip??

But as for STORING your truck...is it at all important to store it 'un-sprung'?? I could see if you have really sensitive springs for a Serpent on-road or something, but other than the fact that your springs MIGHT weaken a TINY bit over YEARS if you store it on it's tires, is there any other reason to do this

could you not get some big thick sponge/foam and cut a piece to fit the way you want, then just sit the truck on it while it's running warming up, just an idea [sm=confused.gif]

If you leave the tires on and store it sitting on them you will get bad flat spots. I hang my cars and trucks in a rack without wheels

ya i get that, but do you need to start a vehicle with its wheels not on the ground or is that just preference?

If you have your engine tuned right, you dont need a stand, i just set mine on the ground, i only used a stand when i was breaking in my engine.

My stock Savage 21 springs ended up becoming too compresed after about 4 month, cos I was leaving it sitting on its wheels.
So now with new springs I always leave on the stand.

I find a 12 inch piece of 2x4 and a 12 inch piece of 2x6 wood work out just fine. Add a piece of old floor mat or carpet on the top of the 2x4 to help hold it in place. Put the 2x6 down, then the 2x4 on top and set the car on that. The 2x pieces, one in front and one in back of the wheels, keep the truck from rolling around in my trunk. If you can keep the wood clean, it gives you a good place to store your unit with the weight off the suspension. Like getting a 2 fer.

I use an AJS Machine stand. Its really easy to start and run your engine, and it rotates to work on it.
