Default New Pipe for my MGT/MTA4

Hi Guys,

At last, I found this H&N pipe and fixed it onto the MTA4. I had to shorten the manifold for the new pipe as it is a lot longer than the stock pipe.

My LHS assured me that this pipe is for .21 engine & I can see it has some kind of double chamber. Well, I will need to find time to try it out. Let's hope it will quiet down the TT.21. Any proper 21 pipe has to be better than the stock right?

Regards

Well, I did try running it. I think the noise may have been lower by just a touch, especially at full speed. As for the performance, I think I was able to lean out by half a turn (It is now 2 turn) without getting over temperature. I only run 2 tanks this morning, and really need to take it off-road to see the difference.

WishTOHB, you say your MGT is Superchanged, what pipe are you using right now? Any chance of the photo?

normanski- It's the factory pipe I am pretty sure. I got it used just this week. It didn't even come with a body. I will try a pic for you.

How good is your hearing? My MTA-4 is so loud that I can bearly stand it, but it is a good truck though.......very reliable.

I saw some photo of a TT15 using what looks like an identical pipe. Do you think the stock pipe is too small for the TT21?

Nice supercharger! So the truck came with the supercharger or did you install it yourself? You think it does make a different to the performance?

I was told by my LHS (local hobby shop) guys who actually race RC on weekends, that there is an Ofna pipe that I think is side mounted that suppossedly really helps the 21 engine breath. I am sure I will see them this weekend and try to get a prt number for you. It came with it and I have never run it without the supercharger. I will say it bangs second gear and pulls hard to the top of the rev's. I need to run side by side with a stock MGT. I think it does a little better, not much. The K+N filter may help too.

I occasionally do wear earplugs while running the MGT. It just has a certian tone at one RPM that makes me cringe.

I think I know what you mean. It does have a rather high pitch noise at times. Also, funny you should mention an OFNA pipe because I think my new pipe looks really similar to this OFNA pipe: 1/8 Tuned Pipe OffRoad Part#: 30490

And the link is

http://www.ofna.com/pipes-18.html

It is the second row up from the bottom right. I wonder which one would your LHS show you? Let me know.

Okay, will try to go by there in the next day or two.

Here is a question for you. MGT seems to bog down when going forward last time I ran it. Wouldn't shift to high gear either. Like brakes were on. Funny thing, works in reverse just great.....

Second Gear in Reverse! I have never had chance to reverse at high enough speed for it to shift. Have you checked the slipper-clutch? I thought the slipper clutch only works one way??

I thought about the slipper clutch but, it works the same since reverse comes from the tranny so, the slipper would have the same force on it weather it was going forward or backward. Yes, second gear full speed reverse is cool, try it!

I went to the track today. It was the first time I've done this in Hong Kong. It was great fun. Someone there actually run a MTA-4 with the Stock pipe. Well, when we were running together, I could not hear the sound of my engine at all. So, my new pipe is a lot quieter than the stock pipe. As for performance, I don't think it makes much difference. It was a good day & I blow the top of my right rear shocks. Do you know any good replacement shocks?

This is a Hyper seven pipe on My MGT it's on a 24.7 and it's very strong but still noisy. I have a new Mach 26 and the pipe out of a Losi LST thats going into it next. I'm going to cut the plastic side plate to make room for the pipe.

I am running INTEGY shocks right now. The seem stout but are way to soft I think. Even with the adjustment nut screwed down to the bottom the truck sags in the back when accelerating.

Plum - Thanks for the info and pics.

Hobbytown guy gave me a free used body yesterday. Pic of MGT attached. Has my Big Joe tires on it.

Did you have to cut the chassis?

I cut the plastic side piece as the pipe sits right on the outside edge of it. But what a difference it runs a lot better.

Plum Crazy, the pipe is really nicely done.

wishtoHB, I can also get Integy shocks here in Hong Kong, people do say they are too soft. What springs are you using? Will the stock spring fit the Integy shocks?

Plum - I have the Alum. Chassis so I won't have to cut mine if I try that pipe.

normanski - I don't have the stock shocks so, I can't say. I think mine are yellow color. Not sure if you can buy stiffer for Integy or not.

I just got done running a couple more tanks and it's not only quieter than stock it also has a bunch more low end and plus it appears much stronger on top too. This pipe combo sounds a lot like the RB 063 that's on My buggy. I paid $122.00 for the Lst's 26 engine, flywheel, clutch, clutchbell, air filter and the manifold with pipe off that bay site auction. Not bad if You ask Me.

oh okay, I thought you had only done the pipe but it sounds like you put in a new motor too.
Is it faster then the stock motor?

I have had the 24.7 in it for a quart or so and You can't compare it with the stock motor can You say wheelies and it's probably 10 mph faster. No kidding

rc_monster - Well I have not tried the stock motor without the supercharger. My feeling is, it would work better if it was totally dialed in. I think it makes the motor run much leaner. If you have the 24.7 already I would just leave it alone. It sounds like it runs better the the .21 w/ the supercharger.

I should have my custom hummer body this week...........

Hello People,

Here is a video showing a RED MTA-4 with OFNA pipe running along side a Blue MTA-4 with the stock pipe. As you can see, the RED driver( ME ) was rubbish. But any way, you can probably hear the differences between the 2 pipes.

http://www.rcpics.net/img/38932

Also, bought a fully set of Integy shocks (for T-maxx) & installed them on to my MTA-4. Can't wait to go back to the track tomorrow
