Default Update on my new supermaxx project

Hey everyone, I just got done with the lower chassis plate *(6061 aluminum, 3.2mm thick) and mounted stuff on it to see how it is going to be. Well, here are some picture links to rcpics.net, enjoy and let me know what ya think.

it looks sharp. I would've thought it was stainless steel if you hadn't said otherwise

well, sorry, but i would say a maxx that is capable of over 60 miles per hour could be called "super" excuse me, but this could beat the pants off of those all aluminum maxx's. The chassis is designed for lowest cg possible, also i borrowed a few things from the revo like the canted engine, so it keeps the cg lowest and balanced as possible. I also included a few things like the 3 speed, and a .21 engine/pipe. And, excuse me mister for calling it a "supermaxx", jeez. Supermaxx is just a term usually used to either describe a .21 maxx with all aluminum, all aluminum, or i think im justified to call mine a sueprmaxx with all my true performance mods, ill call it a "Race maxx" if it makes you happier.

also, update:

I plan to take it out for a ride tomorrow, I'll keep you all posted, and tell ya how it goes.

Anytime anyone puts in the effort you have, you can call it what you like. (But it looks super to me)

lol, thanks, anyways I ran it today, and first thing is it is fricking fast!!!! and it corners tighter than some nitro road cars!!!!. Anyways, I am thinking I will need a more potent engine, because I found its acceleration to that blazing speed is not really earth shattering with the kyosho GS-21R. I have been looking for a way to change the gear ratio on the 3 speed tranny, but have had no luck so far. Well, if anyone has any ideas on how to upp the acceleration on this truck, please, please share them!

Would metal clutch shoes help acceleration?

I was going to suggest shaving some of the weight off your tires but they look almost gone already

actually, they are almost new. barely worn at all. Anyways, i was going to get lighter wheels/tires, but thats not going to completely solve the problem. I thought about maybe a new flywheel for 3 shoe or 4 shoe. Im not sure. The 3 speed's gearing is sorta fixed. Does anyone know who makes clutch pinions that would be able to thread on to the 3 speed threaded clutchbell? I think a bigger more torquey engine would help a lot too.

When you said "mere" stainless steel it almost sounded like you meant stainless was inferior to aluminum. Well, in terms of strength and finish, stainless is tough to beat. Aluminum is considered one of the softer metals, if that were made of stainless it would be near indestructible. But you're going for a racing truck so I can understand how saving weight is more important to you than overall toughness.

Looks great so far, I like the lowered stance and custom made chassis, looks really nice. For acceleration I'd check to see wether you can drop a lower low gear in there. A .21 with a 3-speed transmission should take off like a rocket, maybe your engine needs breaking in? Either that or your truck is over-geared. Remember that in races you hardley, if ever reach your top speed. You win the races in the corners and with acceleration. So in general I'd drop the gearing a bit and see how it performs. A monster truck hitting 60 is obviously gonna have high gears, and slow acceleration with anything but a .28.

I was in no way claiming that stainless steel is worse than aluminum here, I am just meaning it is far heavy for this. It would be really strong, but really heavy. Oh, and your comment about my engine needing breaking in.... What do you mean by that? I have had this engine in my mad force for a long time, and it performs flawlessly, gives good power, and screamin top speed. The whole problem is, the gearing would be extremely difficult to change, and the only change that would be possible is about 2 teeth off of the first gear pinion. I solved my problem though, I put my e speed and .21 back in the mad force, and I will end up buying a new engine and single speed setup.
