RE: best bashing and racing truck under $500
almost every RTR truck for under 500 comes with a crap radio, and arent too good at both racing and bashing, maxx is a jack of all trades master of none, revo isnt the greatest basher and the savage isnt that great of a racer, although [link=http://acehardwarehobbies.com/2.2/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=18_34&products_id=6042]this thing[/link] has gotten my attention

RE: best bashing and racing truck under $500
dude, he asked for a good RACER as well as a basher. Savages can bash but one thing they can't do is race competitively.
IMO, Get a Tamiya TNX and a set of big bores. Comes with a crappy radio but all RTR MT's do besides the 600 dollar LST.
TNX: 360
Big Bores: 60
Total:420
Very fast out of the box (39-40 mph and wheelies on command) and VERY durable as well. Reliable/fast OS engine, very smooth and efficient tranny, good steering servo, very clean and simple chassis lay-out.
You really cant go wrong with this truck.
The other option I would suggest is the Revo. If you can get the 2.5r to run right, You've got a great racer/basher. A lot of people have problems with the 2.5r engine though so that's why I'd stay away from it.
If you want to bash AND race, I'd say get a TNX, revo, or Lst. Strictly bashing, go with a savage.
If I were you, Id go with a Tamiya TNX!

I don't see the Duratrax Warhead competing with the larger companies who have had their feet wet for some time now. If you want a good racer/basher that will require almost no matinence.... Lemme do some math here....
E-maxx - $330
Stiffer springs - $5 (stock shock bodies will do you just fine)
Brushless set-up - $115 (I guess)
MIP CVD's - $100 (you'll need them) < Stock outshafts are the weakest point on most of the R/C MT's around (including the E-maxx with its never-ending torque).
You'll break the bank by a few bucks ($50). But that won't matter when you see the looks on nitro guys when they are blown away by a brushless torque master. When you got the low-end of an E-maxx with the top-end of a brushless system.... Whoz gunna touch ya???? :my2c:

Thatz why I put "(I guess)" next to it. I've never checked into the prices of them. How much does run on average anyway?? I know I would like to invest in the Novak brushless system some day. When I have the MIP CVD's to back up that power.

Even the Hi-maxx Novak costs a little over $300.Get into the german motors and esc's and watch that figure generally rise

dont forget the MGT... Good for both also. And its easy to work on....you need to cut some fat off it though and do a FOC on it.... and dump the stock engine.... and im out like a FAT person at a salad buffet!!!!!!!!!!

What do you have to do/buy to make the Revo a good basher?
One other thing, is'nt this a better shock choice for the TNX?

Great vehicle is the Hotbodies lightning stadium RR or Pro.
I just got the RR version and I love it! Radio is not that great but I am going to be swapping the stock one out with a MX 3
So far luckily its seems pretty durable and I abuse its quite hard.

The tamiya TNX or possibally the Revo. I have both but like the TNX better for both racing and bashing. Both are built solidly, and both are easy to tune.

i think tho the tnx and the revo arent realy bashers, there more in the race categorey
the mgt, i would think would suit you better, cvds all around, nice motor, 2 speed forward and reverse. there is a sponsered guy up at are lhs with a completly stock mgt kicking all are butts. just remeber setup counts when racing
