Need some advice on painting camo on RC body
Hey Everyone,
I want to paint the new body that I got for my Savage a camo color. I bought some different shades of lexan paint and am debating on how to get the desired effect. It's a hummer body that I want to look like a military camo color. I bought some flat krylon camo paints. I am going for the predominately olive drab color and want it to look like real camo. Anyone try this before? Any tips on masking? I know these sound like stupid questions, but I just did a jeep body and it turned out reat, but I did have a few places where color bleeded over...it was a solid color truck. This camo effect will be harder to achieve I think....

Here are a couple views of military camo patterns on the HMMV to give you ideas. Not sure what color each number represents but it would probably change with environment anyway (desert, forest, snow etc...) so just pick 3 and assign a number to it if you want to use the scheme shown or modify it some for simplicity.Do a google search on camouflage armor and you'll probably turn up a bunch of sites with full color pics.
Good Luck

Thanks that is very helpful...that will help me map out a good camo scheme. I know it sounds easy, but I have seen good and bad camo jobs. Thanks again I am going to put this to use.

you do realize that using flat paints on the inside of a body will produce gloss resulst on the outside, just like gloss paint would have done.
If you want low gloss you'll have to spray the outside of the body.

true painting on the outside is a "no no" but if you want it flat insted of gloss, you have to deside what you want more.. flat paint that will scrach easly. or gloss that will last a long time.

Nice find Pinolelst.
Definitely go with liquid mask. Prep your body & draw the lines on the outside of the body with a Sharpie. Since you don't have to worry about shadowing it should be a fairly easy paint job. Show us pics when you're done!
