LST That bad?
Hey, I was planning on getting a mammoth until I looked into the Losi LST. It looks insane. the mach .26 engine, the chassis looks indestructable, those massive shocks, dual steering servos, and a crazy JR FM Radio.
I called up my LHS and asked them if they carried it, they dont carry it. (No horrizon parts) and she said it's not user friendly at all and things along the drivetrain always break. She said the mammoth is a much better truck. SO I want the LST but I need someone who has had one for a while to tell me if it really does break much. The only other problem now is It'll be harder to get parts since they dont carry them.
What do you think I should go with? Why?

I was in a similar situation not long back, I had made up my mind to get a GS SUT Pro and called up the LHS to order it in for me. Even though they could get it, they did not carry spares and would have to order everything in. I decided to go for the Savage in the end because it was something they had a large support for, which resulted in less waiting time for bits or relying on the internet for spares.
I chose this option because I like to support my LHS but if you dont mind web shopping then you should get which you really want.

RE: LST That bad?
Do you have more than 1 LHS? I have 3 within a 20 minute drive. All 3 carry the LST. None of them have a big parts selection, but they can get me anything in 2-3 days. Also, horizon is pretty good at shipping things out pretty quick and you can order direct.
I went to one of my LHS's that displays all of their new vehicles so that you can look and test the shocks (everyone does). Once I saw the LST, I thought, that is one bad looking MT. Then I got on the web, read lots of posts and watched lots of videos. By the end I was drooling. 2 Weeks later, I've got one. Break-in starts tonight.
For the cost factor, I usually end up buying my parts on Ebay anyway. I can save 30-70% over what I would pay in my LHS, so an extra day is worth the wait.
I had never had a real high end radio (Have a recent Futaba Sport and the Savage RTR radio) until now. The JR definately rocks!!! More adjustment than I'll ever use! I love it!

RE: LST That bad?
I have another LHS, and they might carry it, but they mostly sell planes.
I don't know If I'd go for the savage. Right now I'm torn between two hobbies. Nitro R/C and Airsoft. (Realistic guns that shoot 6mm plastic BB's)
I'm hoping to get a job soon (have an interview at Princess Auto) but I dunno which hobby to get into, I've changed my mind back and forth dozens of times. And no I cant really do both, I wouldn't get into either one without spending lots of money.
[] I'm torn
(Can you get lots of Aluminum for LST? at least A-Arms?)

Go to www.horizonhobby.com. You can find authorized dealers that have better prices than the $599 at Horizon, though. Just make sure that they are authorized for all of the warranty stuff to be intact.
There is Aluminum, Titanium, heavier plastic, different color this and that for the LST. The only limit is your budget!!!
Earlier this week, I bought the RPM (Much stronger plastic than stock) A-Arms that are warranted for life. I got them in electric blue to match other parts of the truck and stand out from the stock parts. Sweet! Tires, rims, spinners for the rims, bodies, engines, servos, and different materials for nearly every piece on the truck are out there. I also ordered a set of sway bars for it to make it track straighter in the turns on pavement. The sky is the limit.
As for your hobby choices - I think it would be kinda boring to shoot yourself with plastic bb's. As for driving your truck, that is much more fun...you don't need any help in setting up your ramp!!!

LST is a great truck. That hobby shop is clueless, and just trying to steer you into something that they sell and support. Like the other guy said, you can parts at a reasonable price on ebay.

LST all the way! I was in the same situation as you, I was deciding between 4 different nitro trucks and after a lot of research, looking at the trucks and getting input from a ton of people I decided to go with the LST! Great truck and a lot of support out there. I would rather wait the extra day on parts and get the truck you want! Cal-Torque was right on that hobby shop, they're just trying to sell something that they're going to make more money on.

RE: LST That bad?
PM ThermalRD and ask him about his LST. He has a few turcks and has owned many, though you will NEVER get a good review of the LST from him as he has owned many trucks.
Racing I'm going with a huge thumbs down...and well I don't bash...
I have seen it personally snap arms and shocks shafts often. I've seen it strip CB (cheap aluminum CB gears, what a joke) gears and the gear cover option doesn't fix it, break transmission main shafts, and countless broken CVD's.
I prefer to buy something the LHS has and supports, waiting for parts is not my idea of fun. I would not buy an LST in your situation if you have no local support. Plus being in Canada Horizon Hobbies is very slow shipping due to customs and all that mumbo jumbo. So even if the LST was amazing, in your situation I'd recommend a Savage or Mammoth over it...

RE: LST That bad?
Good news, Another hobby shop in my area carries the LST.
I think Ill buy it there.
(As for the other hobby, its not just shooting things, its Assault rifles and all kinds of guns resembleing real-steel weight and size, and can be affective at 100 yards when upgraded. Its a very intense/ realistic sport. but in my case, It would just be too much $ for how much I'd be playing. Nitros I can drive about every day.)

Black Ghost;
Buy what you want! There are guys that post on these types of questions that make it sound like they know everything about the truck, yet more then likely, they have never seen the truck. When statements like " I see then break all the time" are made, it comes from someone that is disgruntled about their own brand, and they are upset that they didn't but the LST.
Sure there are a few that have/had the LST that had problems, but that can be said about any brand.
I am now on the 5th gallon of nitro, and so far just 4 A-arms have broke, and now the air cleaner falls off on about every 3rd or 4th bad crash. Other then that it`s a great truck.

RE: LST That bad?
Yea, I'm certain Im gonna get it. I dont care to do lots of big jumps anyways.
Cellar Dweller Carrys Losi stuff including LST's. Ill call them and find out how much it is.
The lady at my LHS probably just said those things because they dont carry it and wont order it. they just wanted me to buy their
trucks.
PS; What would you get for arms, ALuminum or RPM?

Hey Black Ghost, find the best price that you can on an in-stock LST (Other than E-bay), print out the offer (And any pertinent shipping info) and take it to your LHS. Many times, your LHS will match the price (And you keep your business local)
The best price I have found is here: http://www.zonecentral.org/products/kits/losiprices.txt only $519!!!
I just got (Literally - today!) the RPM arms. You can't beat the price ($11.xx per set from RCBoyz on Ebay), they are just as light as stock and they have a lifetime warranty! They are much heftier, I tried to bend one in my hands and couldn't even get it to flex.

RE: LST That bad?
Speaking of CVD's, how much should the dogbone be in the cup (On the center shafts into the transmission)? Both of mine are just barely in there and I don't see a way to make them go further. I would think that they should be near the center of the cups, but like I said, mine are very near the end of the cups. Any thoughts?

That is the way it is designed and it will give you no problems. The benifit being you can remove your transmission very quickly, try that with a Savage.

RE: LST That bad?
SO how important is it to have a temp gauge while breaking it in? would you reccomend that I dont even break it in till i have 1?
I never had one the whole time I had my X-C. an I wasnt too careful with it, but I never had problems with it.
Also, would 20% Sidewonder be good for the LST? Because thats what ill get since they carry that. 20% a good mixture for it? Or can these big blocks handle 30% better?

RE: LST That bad?
If you don't have Nitro experience or know someone who can help you then I would get one. I recently started using the onboard MIP gauge (<$20 online) and found it very useful. I also have a Raytech IR temp gun but it is nice to be able to look through the windshield and know the temp at a glance. I used velcro to put the on board temp gauge on the top of the radiobox.
I run 30% only in my Mach and SH28.

RE: LST That bad?
Don't trust anyone that recommends a Mammoth... LOL
I've had MANY trucks over the past 3 years, and the LST is a keeper.
The only 3 that I still play with are Savage, MGT and now the LST.
And, yes, I had a Mammoth, so I can make educated comments about it.

RE: LST That bad?
After you get it broke in and running good you will not have a problem with the run times and if you do you can get the LOSI High Capacity tank. I don't think the Savage or Mammoth have that option.
If you want it to corner like crazy get the LOSI sway bars, it is designed for them.
What ever you do, I would not limit my choices to what the local hobby shop carries, I'm sorry but that is silly.
I buy all my fuel and glow plugs etc at my local hobby shop.
