Default RED "Kanai 3 "Extended Chassis Truggy

Hey guys....I Finally finished a project that i have been working on for about 6 weeks. My goal was to make a Kanai 3 truggy competitive with some of these other "Extended chassis" type truggies such as the Hot bodies LSP , the new Jammin Truggy (when it comes out) and the MSR X-5 Mugen truggy.

I used the "Native racing" suspension kit because the longer arms give the truggy allot of extra width......but with stability. I DON'T really care for "wheel extension's" , so i felt the Native racing suspension kit was by far the best choice for me. I still needed to make the Truggy longer to be accommodate the new width........so i spent 6 Friggin weeks designing a new chassis for the kanai. After making 4 chassis's that failed and i didn't like the way they turned out , i made the fifth one , and it came out perfectly!! I'm very happy with this chassis and everything went together like a glove. I used a 5MM 6061 chassis plate for extra rigidity , because of the extra length. The stock wheelbase on my Kanai was i believe 12-5/8" and the new truggy chassis puts the wheelbase at 14.5"..........almost two inches longer.

There are a couple more things i'm going to do to this truck to make it the way i really wanted it.

1. Trim about a 1/4" off the side's , then mill the edge's at the right angle to fit the rock gaurds on

2. Get the rear shock tower to work up front as well so i can run the longer shocks , front and rear.

3. Make a new extended set of front and rear chassis brace's with a wider stance on the chassis.

**** paint up my Mugen MSR bodies i just got , that have the flanged bottom part's to fit the rock gaurds!!!

anyways......i was pretty proud of this thing , and thought i would show you guys what my project turned out like. I did all the anodizing on the truck in a candy apple red cause it happens to be my favorite color , and was tired of looking at all the Blue colored kanai's , with racer's edge colored shock towers. My other two kanai 3's are the same way , which i pictured one of them next to my new truggy below.

Well.......i hope you guys like it. It took allot of late night's and a bunch of coffee , screaming , cussing , walking away to calm down and scratching my head type moments. But now........i think it was worth it. I always thought , that if i could take the best buggy ever made (in my own opinion) the kanai 3 , and make a really good Unlimited monster stadium truck with it........it would be great! I love the kanai's.........so for myself.....there was no other buggy i wanted to try a create something like this with.

I'm heading out this sunday to test drive it , and put it through the torture test. I'm gonna try and drive at the Pat's acer's track in canby oregon (home of the round #2 Rc pro series race) this weekend. I will give a full report weather it's bad or good and report back on moday evening sometime.

Take er' easy guys!!

Honestly those bend radii on the stock chassis make the 3mm much stiffer...and lighter. Looks good though.

Yeah I know...........The bend on the sides will stiffen the chassis a bunch. But at 5mm........the dang thing is already pretty stiff , and with the front and rear chassis braces on.......i'm hoping i won't have to much chassis's flex. Also......having a chassis (offroad anyways) to stiff , can be a bad thing. Without some sort of flex , the tracion won't be all that good. I was gonna start soft , and stiffen it up from there. I'm actually hoping it's on the "soft side" as far as chassis flex goes.......if it's to stiff the way it is......then i'm going to make a new chassis at probably 4.5MM and go from there

No......Not on these pics....i'm using an older set of T-maxx rims and tires i had laying around. But i do have two new sets of the standard size Bowtie's getting mounted up on some of those newer 1/2" offset 23MM proline rims. I went and got a set of the 23MM wheel adapter's so i could run em , but i also have a couple sets of those 40 series rims and tires that use the old T-maxx style axel as well. It looks like i'll be using the stock 6MM hubs until these tires get worn out , but then i'm switching all my stuff over to those 23MM rims.......i think they will hold up a little better.

Have you tried any medium length shocks on the front? I don't know if Kyosho still makes them, but I know GS does. I had very good luck with them back when I was running truggies, but that was before the extended chassis/arms. Almost forgot, the Kyosho MP7.5 shocks and the GS pro shocks are exactly the same dimensionaly, the only difference is the clip that holds the packing in the bottom of the body. It's an either or situation regards the clip, Kyosho uses the G shaped wire and GS uses an internal snap ring but they are interchangable between brands. Last of all, do you have any plans to make any different lenght chassis than the one you already have? I'm just wondering how that much more length will effect cornering ability in tight turns. Please let us know how things work out as I've been waiting for things to settle down in the truggy wars before commiting to a new one. Last of all, any plans to produce a chassis for sale?

WOW NITROSENCE!!!.................That looks totally awesome!! It almost looks exactly like mine , with different colors. Your truck turned out awesome bro! And yeah.......i want to drive tommarow , but i am not sure that's going to happen or not yet. It's still up in the air with everyone else here. I wanted to finish shaving the sides of my chassis yesterday , but got stood up by one of my buddies , so she's completley torn down , and it's still not shaved. I need to knock off about a 1/4" off each side to get the rock gaurds to fit into the mugen truggy body. BTW.........Are you going to be selling these things Nitro? And just out of curiousity , what's the wheel base on your truck? Mine , with the regular 1/8th scale tires and wheels we're 14-5/8" , but with the truck suspension on it , i was sitting at about 14-7/8". Let me know what you might want for one of those chassis when you get er' done.

Hi Jeff Thank You, It was a real rush to get it together
I know you know that to.
The W/B is 14.5 very similar to LSP specs.
We will have three options available soon.
Phase 1 will be Chassis and custom mounts/Towers.
All The way to a full Race Kit, for those who want the
full program, with all of the best parts.
Chassis will be ready very soon.

Nitrosense,

I am not drying to be a dork.

The conversion you made uses LSP arms and upper links, hubs, etc.. GS SUT center drive, and Kyosho diffs and cases. How will this be any better than a LSP in terms of handling? The suspension is all HB, the chassis and inner guts wont affect handling as much as the suspension. Again, not trying to start something.

Hi TNX

The Stock LSP parts Will not Bolt in directly
Please look back at some of the other pics and descriptions.
The main Focus was to use as many parts off of the Kyosho
as possible, also the truck pictured is a prototype.
The main foundation of this conversion is our new "Extended Kani
Race chassis" . The front end uses Fironi hubs. Kyosho towers shocks etc.
A lot of the parts are very similar between the two
Trucks. As far as the Lighting, There is nothing Bad to say
here. I feel this truck has almost started a new revolution
when it comes to truggys, great price, quality and out of the box
Performance. I like a lot of the Lsp stuff over the Kyosho.
In order to stay with the flow we are looking at all of the options.
The new Kit will include a lot of new parts That we are working on.
Just keep an eye out soon.

Jeff any News?

NITROSENCE.......I did not get to drive the kanai truggy last weekend because of some stuff i had to do around here , BUT.......I DID drive the truggy ALL DAY yesterday!! I will say this.......I was very pleased by the end of the day with what i have built. I did allot of changes with the shocks , springs , camber , steering servo saver , shock mounting position and a ton of other little things. By the end of the day , i think the truggy will be very competitive for sure. I have some things i am going to change today and then i'm going to drive it again later this week. I burnt almost a half gallon through it yesterday , and the main problem i ran into was some bolts that came loose here and there from me NOT using Thread lock! But other than that..........the thing fly's around the track pretty well. I took the truggy down to Canby Oregon at the PAT'S ACRE's track and tore it up all day. I will post some pictures of it either today or tommarow with the completed truck all put together. Anyways.........Have you got yo run your Kyosho yet? Your truck looks very well built for sure , just wondering if you have had a chance to go out and get er' dirty yet??
