im guessing they dont accidently put that in there lol, but if theres truth to this......i can only imagine what they have in the works. the current pro is an awesome racer, verry impressed. by looking at it, youd think...eeeee, but as soon as it hits the track you have a ne respect for the tnx, i do anyway

Well, from what i've learned about Tamiya, they do discontinue things fast. I would guess the next pro kit will have a TRF suspension on it. But who knows... I'll look into this. If they discontinued this truck, the loyal Tamiya fans on the Tamiyatrucks site are gonna go insane.

I just called Tamiya, and YES the TNX Pro is being discontinued. He gave me no reason and no mention of what might replace it. I just ordered my TNX Pro yeaterday from Tower. I wonder if TNX Pro prices will now go up or down to get rid of these. It is an awesome truck. I hope it's just because a TNX Pro 2 will be soon to come.

At this time just the TNX pro looks to be discontinued, not the TNX in general. Tamiya does have a tendency to discontinue products before a replacement is even released though. I was debating between the TNX pro and MGT. I guess that makes up my mind.

With the TNX (non Pro) not being discontinued, My guess is a TNX PRO upgraded version will be released. TNX Pro when you think about was just a Stock Tnx with aftermarket parts included. If they announce now about a upgraded Tnx Pro , the current TNX Pro would just be harder to move before next Pro version release.

Bria, if you are deciding on the MGT over the TNX, you've made a bad choice

Because mayhem is an expert in all things RC.(still giving advice on products you've never used)
Also yes the TNX pro will be replaced, the TNX concept should have been your first clue, as someone said before the new TRF suspension arms are comming out along with some cvds, blue anodized chassis and some other things I belive. Should be an even more potent combination with more tuning options and the drive line wear problem solved(only some have reported this)

That's only if you wanna race. If you wanna bash, choose either

I thought the MGT did good at racing as well. I know it will need different tires, maybe FOC, and stronger steering servo. What else would this need for racing? It already has pillow ball suspension, CVDs, sealed diffs, and now more power.

BRI

the few MGTs I saw didnt steer well - and seemed to chew spurs but that was some hack driver so ......dont base if off that. I think if you want basher, its bigger though seems tough but the TNX is.....quick on the track

The MGT may have the bigger engine, but the TNX pro is lighter, and more nimble than the MGT, just like the Revo. The TNX pro is really just set up for racing, while Tamiya's TNX is their basher MT.

The TNX Pro wont go on sale to get rid of them. JAnderson tells us that they simply ran out of the parts Proline had sent them to use for the Pro TNX truck. So, now a TNX owner would have to buy a standard TNX, and put the proline parts on it. The MGT is a good truck. When i had mine, i ran stock tires at DB's, and had no problems navigating the track. I did however use the factory team steering upgrade, and a JR digital servo. I liked that truck alot. When Allen Horne was still sponsored by AE, he killed everyone on the track with an MGT that was stuck in 1st gear.

What mods do you recommend for the MGT to race?

1) Tires (40 series crimes fighters!)
2) FT steering upgrade
3) Springs (these will vary, depending on how the truck handles the jumps. Drive it, then you'll know what to change)
4) Forward Only Conversion (FOC)
5) Steering servo (metal gear, hi torque 130oz+)

Other than that, add your own radio equipment, and a good RX pack.

Factory team steering option, Bow-tie tires, 23mm hex conversion, the pro-line shock kit for MGT, more aerodynamic body(for the serious racer), and a stronger servo. that's all i can think of

What are some of the common parts that break on the tnx pro ?

I was reading that they have axle problems ? is that true and how do you fix them ?

are the parts becoming easier to get in stock nowadays ?

it looks like some of the parts for the tnx are being discontinued on tower also . chassis and painted body are 2 of them
i wonder why ?

thanks.

The stock spurs are weak. Get the updated gears, they are thicker.
The stock rod ends suck real bad. Use Traxxas, or GS ends. I use GS. No problems at all with them.
The stock screws suck. Plastic thread, they come out really easily.
The axles i've broken a few. They are fine until you hammer the throttle with another truck on you. I really dont feel their that weak.

Parts are NOT easy to get at all. Tower and Speedtech are the best source. Of course Tamiya just started online shopping thru their Tamiya home site. Of course you'll pay full retail.

As for the discontinued parts, it wouldnt surprise me at all to see them discontinue the TNX. They are well known for dropping productst like that. Especially in this category, that really doesnt interest Tamiya, or bring them alot of money.

Default RE: TNX PRO discontinued ?

I bought my Terra Crusher about a month before they discontinued it and later released the TNX. If I would have known I would have waited and got the TNX. If the pro version is not available then the TNX is not worth buying to me. Like Thermal said, any needed parts have to be ordered on line. Every LHS around here has MGT parts in stock. I know out of the box the TNX pro is closer to being race ready than the MGT, but currently the new MGT 4.6 is cheaper.
