it depends, if you tend to get stuck in a lot of places where you could use reverse, get the reverse, if the head of your motor is really getting scratched up and you roll over a lot, get a roll cage thing

Neither.
First get a failsafe. No question, the first thing you should buy is a failsafe.
Next, get a rechargable rx hump pack, as high a mah rating as you can afford.
Next, do the ofna throttle mod
Next, if you don't have them, put in 4 gear diffs
Then think about reverse, head protectors, stronger steering servos, etc, etc, etc.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth

I'm new at this. What exactly does a failsafe do? If your just bashin and not going to tracks is it needed? Thanks in advance for the info.

failsafe is a unit that when the truck goes out of range it applies the brakes so that the truck doesn't keep going and going until it hits something to stop it

I gotta get one of those, but I dont understand it... why dont they build it into the reciever? not like theres ever a time you wouldnt want the servos to default to nuetral when it loses signal. and you figure the electronics themselves are a 30cent item.

Some radio systems do come with failsafe. The Spektrum is the first one that comes to mind. As to why most don't....Well, it's $$$$$$. If they don't include it in the radio then we have to buy it extra. Not to mention the parts we have to buy from running at WOT into a curb.
A failsafe will protect you from more than just getting out of range. It will also go to the protect mode anytime you lose signal, get interference from another radio set or the batterys charge goes below a certain point. A throttle return spring is a good idea to have but will only work if there is zero power to the throttle servo or the linkage comes off the carb.
The Ofna throttle mod is a moddifacation where you replace the stock throttle servo saver with a different, more responsive system. The one most people use is made by Ofna (hence the name) and the parts can be bought online from places like Tower Hobby. If you do a search, you'll find several threads on the subject.
