It seems like a great truck. In fact, I was considering getting it for my first truck, but it will be hard to get parts for. You might as well go with HPI. It is the same company, but more hobby shops stock parts for HPI. I have a Traxxas Revo 2.5R and my LHS stocks every possible part for it, so Traxxas is a good choice also. So unless you don't mind waiting for parts from ordering online, then go right ahead.

Well here in Germany Hot Bodies is pretty well represented(Traxxas is not...) In any case, there's one for auction here on e-bay(new), and I was hoping to hear some feedback on it to know how aggressively to bid.. I like the looks of it..

Ya, I really liked the looks also. If where you are it is a big manufaturer then go for it! You will have much fun, and tons of speed considering it is a "Truggy".

If this is it, http://cgi.ebay.de/Hot-Bodies-Lightn...QQcmdZViewItem
which I'm thinking it is, then go for it. I see that you're bidding for it already(patbwhite). I would bid aggressively on it if I were you. But don't go over 429.99 US Dollars because on www.ultimatehobbies.com it costs just that much.

It's a bigger than a Savage too, isn't it?

Well, it might not be bigger than the Savage because they are both 1/8 scale, but it is different classes. The Savage is considered a Monster Truck, while the Lightning GT is considered a Truggy.

I saw a Lightning Stadium at a HS once, and it looked HUGE. And as far as I know, this truck - the Lighting GT - is 4WD - and that makes it a monster, right?.....

I thought about one too, but I have never even seen one in person. I just like the idea of a MT styled truck that is based on the Lightning lineup of vehicles. I would have probably already placed the order if it came in a kit or a pre-built version like the LSP-R, without electronics or an engine.

It has a center diff, and unless you ask CEN or Traxxas, that means it is not a MT.

What does a center diff do? Does it somehow compensate for only having one forward gear?

The normal buy-now price on e-bay shops here is €599 - a bit steep to TRY something new. But I found one on offer on a HS website for €428 - that would bring it into the realm of serious consideration. The truck I've really got my eye on now though is the MTA4 28. Just trying to figure out if this would be a compelling alternative...

Also, the shocks look kind of whimpy. Would this truck be a good jumper/basher?

Another quick question(got to ask - there's a new one on auction ending in eight hours...):

Do you think it would be possible to convert it to a 2-speed?

I just happen to have a brand new Savage tranny laying around....

The center diff works like the other two diffs on the truck. Instead of having a constant equal distribution of power going front and rear, like with the transmission, the differential allows the front and rear outputs to spin at different speeds. You can tune this action with different weights of oils, just like with the other two diffs. It makes handling more predictable and controlled, but it lacks the efficiency of the locked setup.

By locked I meant that it sends an equal 50/50 split of power to the front and rear axles, like the transmission in your Savage.

I'm sure it could handle light bashing, but I wouldn't buy it with the intention of beating the crap out of it.

I don't mean beating the crap out of it - more, will it survive cartwheels from bad landings off ramps, and all that goes with trying back-flips and so on...

Well, I just lost the auction. Not knowing THAT much about the truck, and really only considering it on a whim cuz it was being auctioned, I only bid up to €370 - and lost it in the last second by €1.. Incredible price when you consider all the other shops want €599..

Anyway, I still want to find out more about it - there's an offer at a HS webiste here for €428.

My plan has been to get the MTA4 S28(€460).. But in the next couple of days I'm gonna try to track down some LGT vids and find out more about it..

I've just been spoiled by my Savage, so whatever I get I have to know it's gonna be tough and not break after one little cartwheel from a bad landing off a ramp or whatever....

On another - and also Hot Bodies-related - note, I did win an auction for a new Mini-zilla.. Now I can bash in the living room....

Your not going to find much info, vids, or pics here... This truck really didn't take off for what ever reason..

IMO I think mainly its because of parts supply and durability.. And not to mention its a cross between a truggy and a monster truck... and most people just went with one or the other when they made their purchase..

With that said... I'm not saying this is a bad truck, but I think true hands on info is going to be hard to come by

What do you mean about durability? There are some people here and there who say the Lightning series is pretty tough and can be bashed - pretty hard too I think.. But I think that's moslty people who've modded out their L Stadiums..

I think it looks like an interesting truck - just hesitant to drop the cash on it without hearing more about it..

Like I said.. True hands on info is going to be hard to find, but hey don't let that stop ya..

This truck has done well racing.. so you could be the guinea pig for bashing it

Pick one up.. test it out and give us a review.. maybe you can build up some interest for this truck

Well right now my two choices seem to be this, and the Thunder Tiger MTA4 S28(MGT to you guys in North America..) The latter is much more proven. They're both about the same price here.

Just sent some e-mails to different shops to see what kind of offers they can make..

So we'll see...
