Default Savage X or Thunder Tiger MTA4 S28(=MGT 4.6) for Huge Jumps??..

Definitely NOT trying to start an argument.. Just a fairly specific question.. Can an MTA4 jump like the older Savages(including flips, etc..), and can a Savage X for that matter??

Kind of boils down to a question of toughness/durability I guess..

Like I said, just interested in hearing objective comments from anybody out there who might have some constructive input..

i dont own a savage but i beleive it will handle big air better from out of the box. because the mgt stock arms arent as tough as the savage arms plus the savage has much longer shocks to soak up those big jumps

Cool, thanks.. Kinda' crazy on the German forums.. Germans seem to LOVE the MTA4 over the Savage.. Guess mostly cuz it's cheaper..

In any case, so making the MTA4 tougher for big jumps would require what, RPM arms and the tuning shock set from Associated or whatever..??? Powerstrokes are too expensive..

to make the mgt tougher rpm arm and nuckles and aluminum shocks. i beleive you will like it better than the savage plus its the easiest truck to work on

it also has the reverse flow tank so if your truck is upside down you wont need to run to flip it over it will stay running plus the factory electronics are pretty decent

Both trucks would jump fine. Its all about the setup, taking the time to change the shock oil and selecting proper springs are very important. Landing properly is also very important. I jump my savage off a berm thats about 8-10ft tall and get a good 12ft up with it and it goes quiet far and i don't really have a problem with braking stuff if i land it properly.

as far as shocks - All you really need are the FT shock caps, the stock plastic bodies actually hold up fine.

Oh, and make sure you add red springs (maybe even a set of copper) to the "must haves" for the MGT, they make a huge difference in stability.

Jumping the two the Savage is always going to come out on top. I love my MGT, but it's never going to beat a Savage in a big air competition. The MGT is a tough truck, and will easily handle any reasonably sized jumps, but for flips & big air the Savage is the truck to get.

So in answer to your original question - NO. In my honest opinion.

Patrick... Snowbl!nd is right but the MGT can still handle some serious abuse.... I've bashed the he11 outa' my MGT and really, not too many broken parts - even when I was running mostly stock....

From the vids I've seen, the Savage IS the tougher truck but, the MGT IMO is not too far behind in the durability department. Now, I've never jumped mine off of a house or school like some Savvy vids I've seen, but getting 10+ feet at the BMX freestyle track is good enough for me!...The 1st time I went to that track, I was running mostly stock (no RPM's, no Titanium) and left because of a lost CVA pin after about 6 tanks. (pre lock-tight days)

If you get a MTA4, you won't be disappointed.

By the way... nice find on the MTA4 S50 - BUT, after more thought, I wouldn't even look at it if it makes it to production the way it sits (in those pics)... That thing (I can almost guarantee) will be as bad (or worse) than the original Genesis - it'll snap every part of the running gear with all that torque. It'll be cool to have some more parts to chose from though, the brakes and the slipper/spur setup look cool[sm=thumbup.gif]

Yeah, the best thing about it - this is just a guess - is that it might make the price of the S28 go down further... That's what I'm waiting on..(that and the trade fair at the end of the month - I'm sure there'll be an S50 there to see too...)

Patrick, if you're after an MGT/MT-A4 why not look into the .21 version? If you can find one NIB it should be a steal, and much cheaper thn the S28. Quite honestly the transmission in the .21 is better than the "improved" version in the .28. Many people on M****rum.com have replaced their .28 transmissions with the old .21's because they are much more reliable (the new metal gears stripped the plastic ones or something). Other than that they're the same truck except for the paint scheme and decals on the body.

The .21 is an absolute screamer of an engine (even more so than the .28), but if you want somthing with more power then sell the engine and get something better - you'd probably stay under the price of the S28.

Just something to think about....

the .21 is better than the .28?[sm=confused.gif]... I heard the 21 was a turd considering the size/weight of the truck and the top speed is about 5mph less.

edit... but, like snowbl!nd said, you might be able to find a 21 version for cheap, then buy a good motor and still be close to the same price of the 28 = faster for the same (or close) price!

The .21 is definately not a turd With the same gearing the .21 will get the truck to a higher top speed than the .28. It may not have the same amount of bottom-end punch as the .28, but it's no slouch.

I don't know if i got lucky with my .21, but i'd happily put it up against MGT's with .28's on a track...

The 21's aren't really available here anymore - especially not for lower prices..

See for yourself! - http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...80404334675531

I think it looks pretty good. Powered by the TT .28 PRO (overkill maybe for this truck?!), so it should be quite quick (well you can see from the vid) If i had some spare cash lying around i might just get one. Something different and looks like loads of fun!

I'm thinking very seriously of selling my HB LGT and getting one.. Need to be SURE about toughness/reliability and parts supply though..

ANYBODY ELSE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE SCHMACHER HAVOC??????????????????????????
