Default Savage RB 086 report.

I got out today to do some limited testing on this pipe and my Savage. I just ran it around my driveway and front yard. No high speed runs yet.

All I can say is: "Holy freakin' wheel stands!". Wheelies on command. This pipe rocks!

I replaced a CVEC with the RB 086. I thought the CVEC was good. But the RB 086 beats it hands down. Plus I am suprised how quiet the pipe is compared to stock and the CVEC. Driving with this pipe will require some throttle discipline when racing. Where wheelies are not desireable. I am running the engine somewhat rich. The temps remained ~210 degrees. Without a question, I would recommend the RB 086 in a heartbeat.

My current setup:
Hyper 8p .21 engine
Stock header and joiner
RB 086 pipe
MIP clutch for MP 7.5
16t HPI clutchbell
MotorSaver airfilter
Blue Thunder 20% fuel
MC8 plug
25wt silicone shock oil

Hey looney, Is it the racing offroad edition or just the tuned racing pipe. Basically, is it black or chrome colored?

Bluehydro8,
It is this one right here. It comes in both black and silver.

Here are some pictures of the installation. Since it is a buggy pipe, the pressure nipple is on the wrong side. So, I had to tilt the pipe a little.

Dude this is sweet. Hey I was thinking about getting the RB 063. This one is for more bottom end. The one you got is more for top end. But they way you are talking it gave the savage lots of bottom end!

Nice Pipe,

Do you think it would make a noticable differance on a stock savage? If so, how?

Also, do you think that changing the air intake will help any...(in a noticable manner)?

Thanx, later

NDeedOne,
I think the stock pipe on the Savage is pretty poor. First of all it has a restrictor in it which robs the engine of performance. Second it is very loud. The stock 21 engine is by no means a slouch. With a decent pipe, like the RB 086, you will see what the engine is really capable of. HPI cheaped out on the pipe. So you should see improvement from just about any aftermarket pipe.

Another item HPI cheaped out on is the air filter. The stock filter is barely adequate. While you may not see a performance boost from a decent filter, your engine will last longer with better filtration.

BUGGIES_R_US,
Yes the images are linked to my webspace in another location.

Thank you looney,
I only have one more question, What kind of heat sink do you have on your truck, is it the stock motor? Thanks for the cool info.

Bluehydro8,
The engine I have there is a OFNA Hyper 21 8 port. They come with that swanky purple head from the factory.

Default Looneytoons: What is your HS needle set at?

It looks like it is screwed in quite a ways. How many turns do you have on it? I have about 4.5 turns on mine right now, and it is nowhere near as deep inside the HSN casing as yours is. I run at about 220-250 deg. What temps do you run?

Default Manifold ?

Hey Looney Tunes - what manifold did you use for the RB086 on your Savage? Is it the original manifold that came with your savage or a different one?
Thanks...

Looney, someone said that the Hyper21 was not a good enginge for MT's. They said that it had no low end torque. Is that true? Have you heard this? I am trying to decide between this and the .247

Brewyet,
I think the person who said that has some other problem with his setup. As far as I am concerned the Hyper 8 port is perfect for me.

I read up on the XTM 24.7. Here are a couple reasons why I did not choose it. The Hyper may have a weak pull-start. But the XTM is even worse. The XTM has a poor cooling head. You need to spend another $50 on a decent head. The 24.7 does have more bottom end. But does not come even close to the top end of the Hyper. To me the Hyper 8 port is the best compromise of features.
Good bottom end + insane top end = .
