Savage just running rear wheel drive now!
Please help!
I have a savage that I have spent more time fixing than running. I am only on my third tank of gas and all of a sudden the truck starts running rear drive only! The dogbones are still connected and the dogbone input shaft is bolted tight. The dogbones both turn under power so I know the problem must be in the front differential. Has anyone ever had a problem like this and how can I fix it? I'm only on my third tank of fuel and the truck has never been offroad yet or above half throttle!
Thanks,
Tom

is the front central shaft turning? if it is turning, the differential
must have a problem.
try to find out where the power loses connection
must have a problem.

Yes , the front dogbone and shaft input are turning under power. I suspect its the front differential but I don't know how something could go bad being that I have only bench run this thing! But then again I think that HPI might have cheaped out on the building , too bad, it seems like it could have been a good truck.

I just bought the truck Saturday. I've replaced the famous tranny screw problem taking 2 hours to fix that, and bought a new pullstarter, and its only Sunday!

new engine has high pressure. if you feel that is too hard
to pull the "pull-starter", loose the glow plug 1/12 turn.
it will make it much easier to start. after it is started, tighten
the plug up.
i tried to back out the tranny screw, then re-tighten it, but it was
too tight to back it out so i just gave up ^^

Im an idiot!!
The problem was the front left nut was'nt tight- I lost the pin for the wheel mount somehow- it gave the illusion of being tight but without the pin it just spinned!
thanks,
Tom

I keep hearing all these problems with the savage. yet I have been running mine HARD and havent broken anything but the two steering arms on the upright. (both in crashes)
my tranny screw is still screwed in, my pull start pulls, my diff ... diffs?
what are you people doing to these poor trucks
granted I have less than a gallon through my truck but still havent seen anything crop up.

So far I have run two gallons of fuel through tis truck. I have had only one major problem, and that is that the set screw on the two speed tranny has worked its way out. I sent the part in to HPI, and they fixed it for me. One thing I can say about this truck is that do not be affraid to bash it; it is tough!

I've had mine about two weeks and I think it's very durable. Mine was run over on purpose by an suv. It only cost about $50 to fix the damage: rear right side shocks, gas tank+ holder, and a dogbone. The body is beat up, but it gives it a little attitude! For the full story check out www.hpisavage.com in general chat under "Horror story- Good ending".

Well, all of you know that my savage is not very reliable... It's not quite a month old, and I just finished my first gallon through it. I 've broken:
7 Dogbones
3 Uprights
1 Servo
2 Servo savers (one was a t-maxx)
2 Wheels (stripped out the inside hex- now it's round)
1 Rear Drive-shaft (Dogbone)
& the body is a little roughed up
But Honestly, I don't abuse my truck. I might drive it Moderate to a Little Hard, but not Hard, and definitely not Very Hard...
I wonder if I got a bad one? I'm kind-of disappointed with how "Breakable" they are...

My savage is about a week old now and never even started it yet. I've dismantled and dis-assembled all the parts for the new upgrade to be put-in.
I'm still waiting for the items this week to come in ...
OFNA Hyper 21 8Port Engine
Tuned pipe RB-086
MIP 3 shoe clutch kit
Motorsaver 1/8th
Trinity 16T Clutchbell
Reverse Module
High Torque Cirrus Servo
Inline Fuel Filter Large w/ Pump
Aluminum shocks
Titanium dog bones
LOL ....
So far I've done threadlocking the tranny setscrew, adjusted the braking post for better brakes, glued the tires, put clear silcone/sealer between the chassis and the diffrentials from water/mud ...
Looking forward this weekend to do the break-in for the new engine.

bueno_z, ndeedone surely doesnt work for traxxas or own a t-maxx Ive seen him drive and seen this stuff break. He really doesnt abuse his truck nearly like some of the guys we watched but still seems to break more parts than most... Oh well I dont think that he got a bad truck either, I just think that he has bad luck with the way he "crashes" meaning flips and cartwheels and such.

he must have bad luck... I have jumped mine and cart wheeled a good 12 feet and nothing broke. missed a ramp and smacked into a wood pile with one wheel, nothing, end over end off the same jump, nothing, hit a curb sideways at a good speed, not a scratch. again the only thing I have broke is 2 uprights (cartwheel and hit tree both on sub 20F temperature days) and broke part of a fin off the heat sink (flipped forward into a tree going full speed, the flip was a feak accident brought on by uneven sidwalk and roots in JUST the right spots to bounce it in the air)
other than scratches on the body my truck is fine.

bueno_z, I wish I worked for HPI, that way I could get all the free dogbones I want. And, no I don't work for Trax-who? or drive a T-what?
Just joking T-Maxx fans.
Pyroman, you've seen the way I drive my truck, you and Brewyet both know that I don't nearly abuse my truck. I've had dogbones break on smooth level ground just driving...driving...driving...then SNAP! there goes another dogbone... there goes another 7 bucks.
It's not like I use it like its a submarine, Pyroman... lol
Later, guys

Hey I feel sorry for you situation with the Savage.
It is just that I have abused this truck like you would not believe!
And the dog bones are just fine. You might want to see how tight your slippier clutch is. The slipper Clutch sounds like it may be to ttight.

There is only one thing I can say, " return the truck where you bought it from, and tell them that you have a dud, and that you want another one".

What's a dogbone?
Just kidding. But seriously, I've run a gallon through my Savage and haven't had to know much about how the truck works. Pretty indestructible, considering I'm basically a newbie and drive like one. My t-maxx has gone through the whole left-side wheel assembly - upper and lower arms and both shocks, but that was definitely my fault. Ran into a tetherball pole at full speed.
PING!
