I'm getting ready for the snow too.
Finally worked on my chains. Took some pics but haven't tried them out yet. Soon, very soon . Going to my friends metal shop tomorrow to start on the snow blade. Maybe some pics of that soon.

Knew when I put them on they were for show. Got the idea from someones post here. Haven't driven it with the chains yet though. May help on ice , but doubt it. Been snowed in for a while now and had nothing better to do.

Where would we be without our hobby?
I know you guys back there in VA can use all the help you can get with the ice and snow problems you've been having. I think your chain project reflects that clearly.....and the fact that you've been trapped indoors!
I'm anxious to see the snow plow. Is it something your designing?

Unstable's looked nice , but he said it wasn't strong enough. I was thinking of cutting it out of some 5" diameter pipe. that would make it more rigid that bending metal to shape. Also thought that I would make the mounting and lifting mechanism all one unit. Instead of lifting with the reverse servo maybe just use the channel to operate a servo mounted to the bumper and blade mounting hardware. Planing to make a mounting plate for it all that will bolt between the bumper and bumper mounts. May change when the welder starts crankin though. I thought about making a rollcage while I'm there. The way I drive it's probably more important . Guess if I have the material I'll do that first.

Hmmmm.....5" diameter pipe? Do you think it might be to heavy? I understand you'll cut it to shape....I'm just wondering how it will handle the weight? Would aluminum work ok? As you said...if you have to shape it to fit it may not be as strong....but with bracing at crucial points....would aluminum work ok?
I'm just trying to give you more home work to do since you locked down by bad weather.

sweet. cant wait to see your plow.
the chains do add a bit of bite to the tires but they add weight. you will feel it when you are driving around.

Banged on it for a few today. Had fun , learned some stuff and in the end.... it doesn't work . Too heavy for the lifting mechanism I planned. May be possible to use blade, but have to rework so its closer to front of truck. I really like Jeeptuffs idea of the pvc, but I didn't have any thinwall on hand. Try and try again. Looks cool though. I'm more determined than ever to make it work.

Definitely has potential CMO. I had quite a few people rooting me on when I was putting it together. Will keep trying.

A little under 2 pnds with all the hardware. Sketching a new design that will use a hinge to lift and lower with an arm to give the servo a LOT more leverage. Looks like the truck will hold the weight if I can locate it right. I was using the turnbuckles to help adjust the blade to the right angle, but it just puts the blade too far out. Also thought of mounting and old shock with spring vertically somehow to help preload the blade with lift. MIght make it look more scale to boot.

I like the idea of the turnbuckles for adjustments.
It sounds like an engineering feat for sure! I'll bet you get it. Your over half way there now!
