Electric MT's are hard to race because mains can be 30 to 45 minutes long. It can be done, but I doubt it can be done in your price range.

You don't need to go brushless, Some airscrew motors, or elcetfly 550 will be just fine. Brushlees is just a waste of money for the e-savage, u can get the power from a good brushed motor. The stock esc can handdle the 2 7cell pace or i run 2, 2s lipo's.

I get better run times with the lipo, from stock 7cell pack would last 10-20 min depending on mah, mine lasted about 17-20min.

Lipo, again depending on mah you could go, 25-35min, i use the http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLXR6&P=ML
And with my truck geared right i could go about 35-40 min on a charge.

It all depends on ur track, is it a short track a long track, mostlys stright, any jumps, alot of turns? Do they just run nitro or eletric. or both? Most eletric mains are only 10-15min so u should be ok. with just a good set of motors and a good set of 7cell batteries.

LiPo's aren't allowed in electric classes - clubs will be different in some cases, but ours does not allow LiPo's in the electric classes. Also I have never heard of an electric main being more than 5 minutes - with most places running triple A's. But, again, no LiPo's. A lot of people are on a budget and allowing LiPo's will eliminate too many people. Matched cell batteries are expensive enough, and since many people have already spent too much money on cell matchers etc making them buy new batteries and cell balancers, perhaps even a new charger just to be competitive (or last through the main) is asking too much. Also, he is racing a Monster Truck. I've been to lots of tracks and have never heard of an electric MT class. I guess if he ran with the flashlights he'd have to run 4 wheel mod. I for one would not want a big 9 lb + truck on the track at the same time as my 2.5 lb Lazer. So he's back to racing in the MT class. I just don't see him being able to get a competitive electric MT in his budget. Unless he can find something used!

So, based on your criteria, I would say get the AS. Besides the truck you HAVE to get racing tires unless you already have some. Stock tires wont cut it on the track. So you're already down $80 on a set of wheels and tires.

Ok, if you want some good batteries. This is to anyone. Some are a bit expensive but I have bought a few used ones and they work great. They are sold by a local guy around here and better than any IMO. Not trying to advertise here just saying what I think is a good battery. They are SPC Batteries, everyone in this area uses em to race and since then all the track records have been broken lol. Anyways just try one out and see what you think. http://www.specpointbatteries.com/

All I know is that you put in order for what exactly you want and then he or they IDK how many of em are involved in the business. They make em for ya then ship it to you.

I am going to have to disagree with you here! A brushless is not pointless in an E-Savage, thats like saying a brushless is pointless in a E-maxx. AER-WUBBY or however you spell his screen name has a brushless in his e-savage so he know of one that just drops right in, it's only a metter of time before i go brushless, i have the S-600 motors but i'd MUCH rather have an e-savage!

I have brushless in my e-zilla, i'm not saying its a wast, it helps alot in the e-maxx, but in the e-savage u have to know wat ur need before u buy. Like the hv maxx for the emaxx is not much faster than a stock e-savage, so its a waste of money to put on in if its going slower.

I have the faqio 8xl with a mamba esc and love it much faster than stock and was not that bad in price.

Just for racing i went lipo, but before i did i ran the stock 6cells and they were fine, i got a new charger and there lasted even longer.

So sometimes its the small things that make a big differnce.

Oh hell ya, wen it comes out! you can join there mailing list!

I emailed them and this is wat i got back form them!

The motors are what we're working on now...ESC is pretty much done...trying to find motors in high enough quality, high enough quantity, low enough price. We could go with one of the high end brands, but we'd have to pass the extra cost on to you...we don't want to do that. As such, we're developing our own motors to our specs that will rival the top of the line companies in efficiency and will keep costs down as a result. If you'd like I can add you to the email list...when they're released you'll be one of the first to know. Simply email [email protected] with a note stating you'd like to be added to the Monster Max email list. I'll do the rest. :-)

Do they have a class for the EP MTs at your track? If not, that sucks man. You don't want to race an EP against the nitro MTs, and PRAY you don't have to run truggies. You can compete... but you should talk to some EP MT guys about how much a season of competitive racing costs and the efforts involved with it before you go diving in.

But even if you go EP, why the E-Savage? Buy an old roller Revo off of ebay and do a conversion. You certainly won't have any less invested in a race ready E-Savage, but with the Revo you have more tuning options and better parts support.
