Default ek4 carb problems....help!!!!

O.K. heres the situation.... I bought a very slightly used thundertiger ek4.The guy who had it before me messed up all the neddle settings on the carb. After about half an hour I finally got it to start ( the instruction manual dosent have any stock carb settings in it !!!????) When it was running it sounded pretty lean.
Two questions for ya... I know which is the high speed neddle but which is the mid and the low (on the left or right?) Second question is .... The seal around were the starter shaft looks and feels worn, and maybe this is why the motor is running lean?( air getting sucked through seal??? ) ANY help would be great cause I know that when I get it runnin correctly it'll RIPPP!!!
thanks- billzair

billzair, to help you out with tuning this beast, these are the basic settings for the carb:

High: 3.5-4.5 turns
Mid : flush
Low: 1.75-2.25 turns

These settings are "from closed".

This should make tuning a lot easier, as a ringed engine can, at times, be a bear to tune.

If you think the seal is leaking, replace it. The worst thing with these engines is running 'em lean. BTW, do you have the MSJ starter or is it stock? The reason I ask is that the stock starter is junk and can do some serious damage to your engine!!!
