run the same fuel % you broke it in with.I read it's not good for the engine to change the % after it's already broke in but I could be wrong

you can change to 30% from 20%.
after the percentage of nitro content raises, the engine will
further nreak in.
you CAN NOT go back.
you can raise the percentage, but never lower

I've stuck with the 20% just because that's what it said in the manual, but I'm curious. Might have to try it. 50% would be well worth the bomb risk to me.

30% will make a little more power with a richer setting (as in, you can make more power at a lower temp), but it is quite a bit more costly than 20% (usually, anyway).
The performance will not be night and day (but the cost might). It is also a good idea to shim your head by about 1mm to keep the mixture from detonating w/ the 30%. 30% can be a little tough to tune (depends on a lot of other factors, too, tho).

stick with 20%, after you feel that you are a pro, and want to get
as much as you can from the stock engine, try 30%, or add 5% more.
35% is being used in race

Im running 25% in my savage and noticed an improvement over 20%. I went from the stock savage plug to an OS A5 which is a medium/cold plug. Most of your big blocks are meant to run 30% I don't know why this one would be any different. Once I run all of this 25% im going to step up to 30% and see how she runs.
Good Luck

I'm definitely going to use a higher percent eventually. I don't know when. Probably when I'm trying to kill this engine, so it won't matter whether I mess up.

I have been using Trinity 30% in my Savage with no problems at all. I have over a gallon and a half run through it so far. My truck will idle perfect, has instant acceleration, no flameouts, spools up fast, and has been easy to tune. I like using 30% nitro in my big block engines, you will notice a difference over 20%. Just my thoughts.

good info here, basically if youre willing to put up with the engine and youre a good tuner and you dont care about engine life, go with 30%. 20% is fine for most people, but power hungry individuals would like the 30%. but you will have to tune the engine more frequently and the tune will have to be more perfect for the engine to run good.

LOL..
This whole nitro thing in my opinion is over rated.
You want power? Get more displacement.. not more Nitro!
The power gain to engine lift reduction ratio just doesnt compare..
Its like doing drugs.. 5 minutes of joy to give up 5 years of your life.
I'd stick with 20%, add 4 ounces of castor oil and lean it out till it runs at 235-250

I agree ram, there is no replacement for displacement, but the thread was about nitro% for more power, not swapping engines. There is other options for getting more power, but that has already been covered before. I also agree that higher nitro% will shorten engine life, but big blocks are more tolerant of higher nitro%. If you are a good engine tuner and are comfortable with a shorter engine life, go for it, but if not stick with 20%, no engine last forever though.

Well yeah I got carried away..
What I originally intended to say was: get 20%.. add like 4-6 ounces of Castor oil in it and tune that sucker.. With that added oil you can lean it out even more and it'll run better than 30% and last much longer!

Yeah man.. its already in there.. but castor really helps the engine stay cool because its so slick and it helps the engine stay cool by reducing friction.
Its "breakdown point" is always somewhere over the 500 degree mark so it wont self destruct because of the heat.
More nitro is NOT BETTER!!
Nitro is added to Methanol to achieve a better idle and overall performance to an extent. Nitro in itself is not cumbustible at room temperature. However, at high temperatures it adds odygen to the combustion process. Its more of a catalyst than a fuel.
By adding a higher % of nitro.. your giving up methanol, which is the REAL FUEL!
And I guess I can compare this to car octane ratings (Bad comparison I know.. but lets see if this makes sense)
Although a higher octane rating will help high performance engines.. it wont do squat for your 3 liter V6 in your mercury
I'm at a loss of better examples.. anyone?
