Default Motor Trouble?

Ok, I know this is kind of in the wrong forum, but I feel like I've gotten to know and can trust a lot of the guys who post in the MT forums, so here goes.

I bought a RC10GT from some guy at the LHS, it's got a OS 18 CVR in it. I paid 40$, so I am not expecting much, but it seems to run pretty well.

I'll try to describe the problems, hopefully someone can narrow it down for me.

1: The motor does not seem to want to reach it's higher RPM's. The truck will go pretty fast, but the motor sounds like it's stuck in the lower RPM's. Occasionally, it sounds as though its getting up there, but it's not consistent.

2: The powerband is VERY spotty. Sometimes from the get go, it will pop a wheelie and flip over, other times it's really laggy. Could this be because I'm running a 4AA receiver pack? Would a 6.0v receiver pack fix the strange low end performance?

3: On my MGT, when it smokes too much, I just lean it out and watch the temps. I've got this motor leaned up to where I feel as though it's dangerous, but the temps rarely go above 200, if at all. I'm like 1 3/4 turns out from closed and there is still MAJOR clouds of smoke when the throttle stays at WOT for more than a second or two.

4: The differential seems to be VERY tight. I have been told that on the RC10, you have to leave it tight because of the power of the CVR motor. How tight should it really be? I'm talking like... the thing clicks and grinds when you turn the wheels opposite of each other.

I know the diff probably needs to be regreased and reassembled, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

Any ideas would be awesome.

Default RE: Motor Trouble?

well, if it doesn't reach high rpm's, and you still have lots of smoke, and temps are good, lean it some more..... I have a hyper .21 in my t-maxx... the manual says the HSN should be 3 1/2 turns out, but it wont even start at 3 1/2 turns (floods) it will barely run at 2 1/2, and runs great at 1 1/2- 1 3/4..... It shouldn't, but it runs great with lots of smoke....
