mid and low needle?
What is/does the mid and low needle do on the stock savage engine? Also how do you adjust them...or do you avoid them like the plague?

The low is for adjusting idle mixture, the mid is for adjusting your transition from low to high air/fuel mixture.
Clockwise, lean.
Counterclockwise, rich.
If at idle, you can pinch your fuel line for more than 3 seconds without hearing a noticable rpm increase, you're probably too rich. Or, if you pinch and your idle instantly changes, you're probably too lean.
Trial and error really.
Hope this helps.

don`t touch the mid range needle lean out the low speed needle a little bit from the factory settings so it doesn`t bogg down when you hit the throttle

I agree with not touching the mid needle. for me it seemed to act like a start/no start switch
1/8th turn lean... wont start... turn it back.. fires up...
1/8th rich... didnt start.. turn it back... starts right up
I am about to label it with "magic" "no magic" (some old school computer geeks might get that one)

Playing with mid "needle" alone is the same thing as playing with the low needle. In fact, it can be used as an easier-to-access low speed needle.
For the mid "needle" start to modifying anything, is must be moved together with low needle, as if both were a single axle.
I mean, MSN 1 turn in, LSN 1 turn out, capisce?
But I strongly recommend you not to mess with it

Well, the only way to change mid speed AFR's on 2 needle carb in to change the length of your pressure tube (from exhaust).
3 speed needle are for the more advanced users, but if you can tune, you won't get any lean/rich mid spots.
