Damned one ways :(
Hey all,
I've got a horrible feeling I've killed the one way bearing in my savage SS.
Basically, although I can't see any cracks or the like on the bearing, whenever I try to turn the engine over with the rotostart it seems to just spin, firing once every five seconds or so.
If I turn it over with the pullstart, sometimes it kicks sometimes it doesn't.
If I turn it over by hand with the rotostart then it turns over every time, but it's quite stiff (as you'd expect!).
Does anyone have any suggestions for a temporary fix for this while I try and order a new one-way bearing, or am I stuck with a dead truck for another few days?
Thanks.

I think I read on another post here that the Tmaxx one way fits??
Better look at previous post just to be sure before you go buy one though!!

RE: Damned one ways :(
From my other thread where someone tried to confuse me
Well, I've just gone delving into my problem a little further....
I've found that the one way itself is fine - in bloody good nick to be honest with ya.
The problem lies with the hex that grips it - there's a tiny, TINY crack running right along one side of it.
Can I get the hex seperate, or do I have to buy the whole thing? Part numbers would come in handy
Also, are there any alternatives I can use? Do you know of any bearings off other trucks that DEFINATELY work? I might well be going to a race tomorrow (assuming I can get this thing working!), so I could always try and poach a replacement from someone - assuming another brand / model will work
Thanks again all

Does anyone know of any other bearings / hexes that are going to fit for me here? Hopefully I'll be able to have my first bash at racing tomorrow

RE: Damned one ways :(
Well, there we have it.
Just tried the one-way off my CEN TR4 and although the one-way itself fits like a dream, the hex is too big for the pullstarter / rotostart
Any other suggestions? I wanna get as many trucks / cars as I can on the list so I know what to look for when I go hunting tomorrow
Thanks

RE: Damned one ways :(
It's gotta be a bad design for the huge compression that the S-25 kicks out.
I had the engine in pieces earlier on, and it was only then that I grasped just how much compression there is in there!
I've told that all the "force" engines from .12 to .25 use the same pullstart mechanism, so I'm guessing the same one-way is going to work on them all too. Let's just hope someone's at this race tomorrow selling them, or at least someone has a spare I can buy off them
Meh, I'll see how it goes and let you all know. All things going well, I'll be heading off in a few hours...

RE: Damned one ways :(
did you try the savage .21 bearing those are available about everywhere.
i have gone through 2 one ways on my SS now and just got my third today,
out of 8 engines this is the only one way i have ever had issues with.

I'm guessing you use the rotostart then, eh?
I think HPI really does need to accept this as an issue and offer some sort of alternative, even if it's just a stronger one-way...
I'm tempted to see if my dad can't get hold of something a bit more robust (he works in the aerospace industry).
This really is the only fault I've been able to pull out of my savage now

My guess is that your one way isn't broken. If it isn't broken There is an easy way to get it running again. Pick up some buggy blast or some other motor spray from your LHS and spray the oneway on the inside as you turn it on the shaft. These one ways get oil inside of them and makes it hard for them to engage the starting shaft. make sure everything is oil free as you put it back together.

Yeah, I read that one too. I was just trying it when I noticed a tiny crack running down the entire length of the hex - that was the culprit
I've got the new bearing now though - arrived today, so I can go out bashing again tonight
WOOHOO!
