Havent done it, but whats it gonna hurt huh? If you like the Idea go with it. That is probably one of the best mods you can do for CHEAP!! If you would tear into a 1/8th buggy diff(kyosho, mugen, ofna, and so on), you will find that most of them use the 4 spider gear design, and there is a reason why, so they do not fail.
