I wanted to test how long my SAVAGE 21 bb engine would Idle so I let it.

I let it Idle for 20 minutes, and then I had to shut it down myself, I am sure that it would have idled through the whole tank.

not even my Axis does this, I would be lucky to get 3 minutes.

Cool....
My kyosho GS 15-R will idle forever as long as there's fuel too. Although it's not a powerful engine.

Did you check the temp at all while you let it idle that long, you would want to make sure you got the engine up to at least 180 degrees or you could be causing yourself some trouble.

Whats the point of letting an engine idle?

idle is just a way to keep an engine running and its a waste of fuel/time.

As long as it runs fine.. I wouldnt worry too much about idling.

Personally I like a slightly rich idle/low end to cool down the engine after a nice long top speed run.

I just let it idle to see how long it would idle for just out of curiosity juring the cool down period after a hard run.

Oh no.....i'm running too lean then. But once I richen it just a tiny bit it'll make very very low power and my 4kg truck can't move. It only has a HSN also. What's wrong?

The engine is not runing to lean, it is set at the right settings. I am just amazed at the Nitro Star 21bb engine because I am now just going through my 9th gallon of fuel on the motor, and she still runs strong, and still starts on the first or second pull.
There has been no rebuild on the engine; however, I have been using Z-MAX transmission additive ever since the beginning as an after run oil. I am quite sure this is why the engine still runs strong.
I also have the XTM 24.7 motor to drop in when I have time.
I have had the Savage since November 11, 2002.

I donít have a RC car/truck yet; I was just going on my mechanical background

The oil should start to bog the engine down after it has been idle for not much more than 1min (ish)

So I would say if yours idles for 20 min i would say its running lean
I might be wrong!!!

Anyway I have a question
How loud is the stock savage engine?

I had a buggy about 5 years ago with a .22 engine in it would you think itís the same noise level?

How good is the savage and what parts break/wear often?
I was just wondering about the running costs

After the engine is broken in and tuned properly it should not idle through a tank like it does during break in. While it is probably a bit lean, chances are its not so lean that it will cause you problems. If you have good power, a nice trail of blue smoke while running , and decent temps, you will be fine. I have mine set to idle fine for about 30 seconds before it starts to load up and needs to be cleared out.
