The new gearing in the Losi XXL tranny is supposed to give it an insane top end.. I think all you'd have to do is add maybe two teeth to the CB, or just one with a really good tune.., and I'm pretty sure you'd be up around 50mph.. Lots of guys getting readouts of 45+ with their DX3S telemetry systems right out of the box... Get supertib or somebody to mod you an OS 28 for rotostart, whack a +3 CB on it, and you'd be up there...

I don't know about the MMT, but the Mammoth (The MMT's predecessor) was fast top-end... it was approx. 50MPH stock. Then again, you were lucky to get it to last long enough to get to 50MPH... things may have changed....
The Losi XXL would be a good one, however the Revo is lighter and has more gearing combos.
In a perfect world, a Revo outfitted with 17/35 cb/spur and the wide ratio gear set with 7" tires and a 50k RPM motor should net around 80-100MPH... never seen it done, but on paper... it should work. The Revo is the lightest truck out of the bunch, and as such requires less HP / TQ to get it moving. You can put a big block on a Revo, gear down, and have a VERY fast machine. My Revo has a TM323 (.23) with 16/36 gearing and it HAULS.... definitely faster than my LST2, but it's stock. Definitely want a wheelie bar, though.

If you're strictly talking about nitro. I've seen a stock Revo out run a couple of different savages and a T-maxx. Can you run brushless? If so then get the brushless E-Revo and a pair of 3S lipo's. That's good for 65 MPH without any messing around.

truth fully a was leaning towards the MMT but 399 plus another 150 for a .457 or lrp.30 would send the price up around the XXL OR MGT8.0 level

If that Revo had bigger tires, it would go faster top-end...

how much more could he get out of it without mod'n

He can probably get some more out of it with tuning / gearing... the downfall to the XXL for your situation is that it's #1 heavy (13lbs) and #2 the 454 engine in it is already a .28 (almost as big as you can get in a 2-stroke nitro)... however, you can't argue that stock out of the box, it's FAST!
(and that radio is pretty freaking sweet, too!)

Check out our NYC monster drag race we had 2 years ago:

Kind of like what you are doing, cept that particular event had tons of entries. Speaking from experience (Floyd Bennet is drag racing central for this stuff lol), you're best bet would be a Revo with a highly modded .28 and huge gearing. You want the lightest truck (Revo), with an extremely powerful engine (Drag modded Picco/OS .28), with extremely high gearing and good tires such as the HPI Phaltlines.
The fastest MT I have seen to date is in that vid which was an Ofna Dominator (I think thats what you wanted to say eh? Don't remember a Terminator..) which was really modded, but the owner wouldn't let anyone see the guts. Honestly, the guys around here run crazy rigs- and now they've mostly gotten into 1/5 gassers and have Bajas doing around 60mph regularly and the quarter scale dragsters these guys have are nuts... Fastest things I've seen on a drag strip, they race for cash too on weekends... I don't know if they still hang around there, but on weekends there are tons of people here- its worth checking out if you are into drag racing I guess.

As rcnitrohead pointed out... for drag racing, you want as LIGHT as you can have... and as big of a motor / gearing as you can. Being that the Revo is 3+lbs lighter than any of the other trucks and can handle the same power plants, it's an obvious choice!

Most likely because for this application the MGT8.0 would not be a good fit. Until recently, MGT's have been the slower of the mainstream nitro MT's. The 8.0 has some power with the big .50 engine, but... it just can't compete with a well-built Revo in a drag race.

Wheelie bar / gearing / throttle control. It's better to have the power and not need it than need it and not have it.

yea, gear it to the moon. a picco 28 could do all the gears the revo has available, and still launch hard.

With the 457 6 port pro in the MMT not one of those others will stay with it period. unless you stick that engine in one of the others........but there all a pound or 2 lighter than the MMT

Not sure why you'd think the 6 port 457 Pro (Same as the LRP Spec 2) Would come close to the 8 port Losi 454 (Same as the LRP Spec 3)

Cause hes an XTM fanatic and will only talk about old technology that XTM can't seem to update.. That engine may have been the $#!* 3 years ago but really, don't even suggest that cause it saddens me lol
