What if I have a ramp set up on the edge of a cliff? There's a ~50ft drop off into a gravel pit somewhat close to my house, I figure I can get about 12ft of additional air off of my large ramp.

Alternatively, I was thinking about jumping a creek.

I guess you can do that but it will still be considered about a 12 foot jump.
Jumping the creek would rock! (You would have to get a dukes of hazzard paintjob first.)

Nice vid Damo!
Thanks for the submission.

Why? A 60' drop is a 60' drop, regardless of whether or not a cliff is involved, the potential to damage the truck or screw up the landing doesn't change. For example, the jump 30 seconds into this video would only be considered a ~20' jump by your definition, but the distance between the apex of the flight and the ground was about 70-80'.

Jumping the creek would rock! (You would have to get a dukes of hazzard paintjob first.)
My projectile range calculator says that the truck should clear the creek, but I'm not sure how accurate that is, since the program isn't really designed for such an application. I'll have to mess around and figure out the best launch angle and optimum run-up, since I really don't want to sink the truck in the water.

I think the rules would be better if cliff dives were disqualified. Lets see how much air these babies can get on launch/landing zones that are at close to the same level and see who can get the biggest air. Anyone can run a truck off a cliff, and it should land and be able to drive away unless the elevation allows the truck to get more speed from gravity than the materials can take.

That was some sikk air indeed HPI.
It was way more like 20+ from the launch I'm guessing and I would have rated it highly.
That was a little different than a simple cliff dive that I meant.

But what does that mean?[&:]

And thank you rcnitrohead for inspiring this thread.

Are you confused yet?
If not see the rules.

WERD! I am the inspirer of all things!

About that, I meant that all cliff drops should be survivable till the truck gains enough speed due to the force of gravity that the materials can't handle.

one jump?!?! that's it? well I hope we get to see some house jumping, the mentioned creek jump, or something BIG and original...not the same played out jump off a berm over a weak little fence, LOL.

Personally would rather see a full video full of random jumping, going big and whatnot. then let us vote on who is da King. Go at it boys. should be fun

Hmm, I wonder what the terminal velocity of a level falling Savage is?

It would probably have to be determined experimentally (The fun way), since there are way too many surfaces on the truck to make an accurate drag coefficient estimate.

I'm still making a 60' cliff dive video. It won't be entered here, but it will still be awesome. I'll probably end up doing the creek jump for the contest. When is the entry deadline?

You make me want to slap myself for not paying that much attention in physics 2 yrs ago, should have just said terminal velocity haha. Its gonna bite me in the buttocks in my mech engineering courses for the next 4 yrs haha.

So where's your big air vid?
I watch a few vids here and there and don't run across too many 25' burm jumps.
I was going to go off the side at first because this was my first "big" air and wanted to practice a little.
But you heard my friend (the LHS owner) call me a sissy and offer any broken parts at cost.
So I went for it.
That was not a planned vid/jump it just happened and got it on tape.
Hmmm, I need to build a ramp and try backflipping my house.

Hey, go for it!!!
I'd love to see your 60' jump.
And if it's anything like the vid you posted we'll see what the concensus is and let it in the comp.[sm=shades_smile.gif]

Once all submissions are in I will ask if there are any late entries people are still working on just to be sure anyone that wants in gets there chance at bragging rights as the RCU MT King Of Air.

Nice vid Rich.
Thanks for sharing.
I loved the little flip it did coming back into the volleyball area.
If you are helping make our troops safe over there in Iraq I guess we could bend the rules for you.[sm=shades_smile.gif]

who me? or the other guy? I been known to bash a little not any jumps worthy of a big air contest, but some fun stuff

I'd try to take this contest down, but my weak rtr engine isn't capable of it, lol
