Default love my tmaxx but im about to tap out

okay my tmaxx was cutting out at high speeds wouldnt shift right and i messed with it for about 3 days trying to get it to run right.
now after i got that fixed now its fouling plugs after about 10 mins of run time
im running it rich as crap so i dont know what the problem is.
i like this hobby but its very expensive and my truck almost never runs right.
why is it doing this?

It sounds like you transmission can't keep up with you engine, running it too rich will eventaully ruin the engine and parts. Check to see it the glow plug you are running is suitable for your traxxas engine. Some use os 3 and others use os 8. There are several plugs out there that are pretty good, I use Blaster plugs (long-med) for 5%-40% nitro, McCoy MC-59, and Duratrax Gold Racing DTXG3005. They are provide better starting and won't burn out like the rest. If you have a bigger engine than your original transmission can hold it will not last long. Turn you high idel needle back clock wise toclose then 2-1/2 counter to open it up, this is the normanl factory setting. Crank it up, then after that 1/8th open at a time, remember to use the remotecontrol setting as well, use the remote to close the valve then open it up about 1/16th,no more than 1/4.It seems the is receiving to much air and causing it to choke when running. Hope this helps.

Here's a tuning guide I wrote up maybe it could help you.

To get it tuned, First get the engine fully warmed up!
Never tune a cold engine.
Start from factory settings on all needles. (Maybe 1/8 to 1/4 in on the HSN from factory.)

Be sure to set the idle gap as well as needles to factory settings before retuning from scratch.

Get your HSN set first.
Keep leaning the HSN 1/8 turn in at a time and watch the performance increase.
Making a couple top speed passes each time to let the engine get used to the new setting.
When you see a decrease in performance turn the HSN back out 1/8 to 1/4 turn to richen it back into the safe zone. Keep an eye on temps as well.
Good top speed and good trail of smoke at all speeds is what you want.

Then set the LSN.
You can do the pinch or punch test, or both.

PUNCH TEST-
Once you have the HSN set, engine warmed up.
Make a couple top speed passes and bring it in and let idle for 10- 15 seconds.
Then give it 3/4 to full throttle.
If is slow to take off and smokes alot you are too rich and need to start leaning the LSN.
If it takes off fast, rev's and dies, etc... it is too lean and you need to richen the LSN.

If it smokes and is slow taking off, start turning the LSN in 1/12 to 1/8 turn and again make a few passes to get it used to the new setting in between adjustments.

PINCH TEST-
Make a couple top speed passes, bring it in and pinch off the fuel line near the carb.
Start counting 1...2...3...
It should run for about 3 seconds before it revs and dies.
If it runs longer you need to lean the LSN.
If less than 3 seconds you need to richen the LSN.

Once you have good acceleration and still have smoke at all speeds you are done.
You may need to reset the idle on the carb once you are done tuning.

Weather always plays into your tuning and you will need to adjust the HSN for day to day conditions.
I.E.- colder weather requires more rich settings and vice versa.

I am just a basher and no expert so use this info at your own risk!

For the money, just buy the cold, med and hot. You can't go wrong. For my cars and light trucks I use the med and hot. For my 1/8 I use the cold.
1.Cold Plug for competitive racers and higher nitro fuel
2.Medium for club racing and sport use
3.Hot plug for low-nitro fuel and sport use
This is the info needed to determine what you need.

...for a T-Maxx with a .15-.18, I'd suggest a medium plug....if you have anything bigger than a .21 in it, go with a cold plug....

these are good and have a quantity discount....

Medium....

Cold....

There's also a medium/hot plug....

The O'Donnell's sport grade plugs are inexpensive, and last pretty well too....
