Default Want a MONSTER truck?

NOT FOR SALE.. just an image to give you an idea to it's size:

Here's a shot of the Savage XL for all you who are looking to buy a truck. I was curious about the actual size of the vehicle myself before purchase. So here ya go! If you'd like a picture of the truck with the body on, just let me know; my camera is just a click away

I'm sure you are very familiar with the K5.9.
LOTS of experience...

Here's some pics of 6 gallons in.

While I am backing the K5.9 and XL up I might as well post a vid.
So where are SuperTib and BudBud?
I haven't seen them in my Big air comp... with all that HP one would think they would slaughter the whole thing.
Hmmm. I'm sure one of them has an answer/excuse.

Seeing as how I helped you get your MMGT going it's the least you could do.
I guess I need to chill out but I'm tired of hearing "get rid of the 5.9" anytime someone mentions an XL.
I know 4 guys besides myself that have the K5.9 and we are all happy with ours.
If you want to slam an engine the MGT8.0 is more than worthy.
From what I've seen at least 1/2 of those .50 converted heli engines are bad.

I personally agree, the Kingstar (HPI rebrands them as Nitrostar) engines are pretty much RTR engines. Some Kingstars are okay, the F4.6 is probably the best.

There are some really nice aftermarket engines that I would prefer, even though they are smaller displacement engines. LRP (the .30 one in specifically) is a good upgrade to this engine. Many of the Savagefans have upgraded to Picco .28ci engines and a few who can afford them have bought pull/roto start versions of the Rossi .28 engines.

I dont want everyone to think that the K5.9 is a total piece of ___, it is an okay engine for an RTR one, and it is actually better than most of the cheap-o RTR engines on the market. But there are better engines one can upgrad to.

So are you saying Jim that the Savage XL is not useless without upgrading the engine?
It just bugs me that whenever someone mentions the XL all you hear around RCU is "you need a new engine".
Because I take that statement as "don't bother getting an XL unless you have the money to upgrade the engine" and I believe that to be very untrue.
If you wanted to say that about the MGT 8.0 I would completely agree. (I have owned both 8.0 and XL)
I could barely afford the Savage XL as it is... muchless buy a new engine for it and try selling the 5.9 on Ebay.
I need to get some comparison pics of the AE 8.0 and K5.9 internals.
As far as RTR engines go I think the K5.9 is pretty good and I am very happy with mine.
To be honest I will surely rebuild mine when it is time.

Just to compare the XL K5.9 to the MGT 8.0 here's a thread that I found amusing from some MGT8.0 owners.
The fun starts at post #4.[sm=lol.gif]

I dont think the 5.9 is a total POS, I do give kingstar this: this K engine ("K" for Kingstar) is actually a big step up from he K4.6. I have several K4.6 engiens lying around in various states and they have served me well. And actually, the 5.9 does have some potrential as Budbud can attest (he had one of his 5.9 engines modded ant it goes!)

Well, I have seen a number of blown up 5.9s, mostly piston failures. I would say that it happens frequently enough to warrant having a backup engine, or funds available to purchase an upgrade engine if the 5.9 suffers a catastrophic failure. Not saying that every 5.9 is guaranteed to be a junker, but there is a greater risk of problems with the 5.9 than with many other engines.

As for supertib and BudBud, you can be certain that they won't be entering your contest. BudBud isn't into jumping, and supertib has the misconception that truggies are better bashers than MTs, so he doesn't even own a MT anymore.

Yea sorry for going after Budbud he is a cool dude and helpful.
It's just he got on me when I first came here and recently Supertib got all up in my buisiness then started backpeddling and ended up saying that I have a great 5.9 and if I want more power I should get a buggy or truggy and my XL is great.[&:]
I asked Supertib how to mod my timing to make the 5.9 better and he told me that it was fine or something like that.

I am a pretty cool dude and don't normally attack people but I guess a few bad K5.9 apples spoiled the bunch here and I have been taking the 5.9 hatin personally.
Sorry guys.[8D]

What supertib probably meant was that the 5.9 has plenty of power for a stock Savage. More powerful engines will tend to annihilate the drivetrain of a Savage. A buggy or truggy will usually have a stronger and more efficient drivetrain in stock form, so they are a better platform for something like a modified Picco 28.

He likely didn't want to mod your 5.9 because doing so would substantially increase the risk of catastrophic failure. Kingstar engines are built using low grade materials, as they are not designed to produce big power. Pushing the timing to the limits would very likely produce a motor that self destructs within a short period of time.

to my knowlege the f4.6 is a force motor, and the k4.6 is the kingstar series.
