For sheer torque I'd go with Kyosho Magnetic Meyhams. lots of torque for crawling and general use but they don't have all that much top end.

I got yer motors...
I'm running Trinity Speed Gems Onyx 14T motors on my TXT-1. They're great all around motors, rebuildable, and only 30 bucks a piece at Tower. They're each hooked up to their own Super Rooster, each with their own Panasonic 3000mAh NiMH pack.
I'm running the stock 15T pinion gear, and the truck must do over 25 MPH - yes, I have 9 - 14 pinions on the way from Tower, because the thing just flips over on the lid if I floor it from standing still. This is one powerful freakin truck. If you use the Onyx, just break em in right, and you won't be sorry...
Just hope you can use this post, as your original request is like 2 weeks old... If not, I hope someone can use it

I'm sure you'll be fine with whatever motors you run. Breaking in, is per the manufacturer's recommendations. I know that Trinity recommends running their motor unloaded with a few volts, while using break-in drops for the brushes. Just read the package, inserts or even their web site for break-in info.
The worst that can probably happen is that the brushes will not seat fully on the commutator, and will not let the motor run at peak performance (reduced run times too) and it can possibly cause radio glitching, which isn't a huge deal on the TXT, but it can bug you when you're doing low speed crawling, etc...
Also, just keep em clean with electrical contact cleaner that's safe on plastics - I think Trinity makes Buggy Blast motor cleaner spray, and I'm pretty sure it's safe. The dust can cause the brushes to wear, and can mess with bushings and bearings in the motor, necessitating more rebuilds...

Doug's FAQ is just about the most complete reference for beginners.
o If you call Tower Hobbies, their people can help with some stuff. They have an expanding parts selection for the TXT at:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=TAMC0280&P=X
o Tamiya itself, can help you out too, if you get into a jam, or if you need spare parts, etc.
o There are some deals on add-on parts at eBay.
o RC4WD at:
http://www.rc4wd.com/shop/go.cgi?&sh...&Category=1100
...has some awesome aluminum CNC machined parts for the TXT. He's not cheap, but "expensive" is what attracted me to the TXT in the first place. What I mean is, it's the relative absence of plastic parts. The first things to go, in my aftermarket outfit project, were the plastic bumpers.
If I think of any more, I'll post it here. Oh... here's another...
