What's the best option for 5s? One Zippy Flightmax 3s 5000 30C + one 2s with the same stats? Then I would hope there's a Y-cable adaptor from 4mm direct to Deans?...

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

Yea you can go that route to achieve 5s,

The zippy hard cases are tough,

but having run both zippy and turnigy hardcase packs, I can say that the turnigy packs give much better throttle punch,

This adaptor should let you away

Thanks. Rain seems to be letting up, so here we go....

(I have to order from the German warehouse, so I don't think those Turnigies are available to me..)

The charger's been on for 35 minutes, and is quite warm, but no fan or other noise? Is balancing some other separate process to the charging, or is it all the same?

sparky 25 12-25-2012 02:44 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

You appear to be on the correct balance charge with the display on your charger,

It's quite normal for a charger to get pretty warm during charging,

Not all chargers are fan assisted so the heat sink gets hot instead,

your charger looks exactly like the IMAX A6BC charger I used to have, just a different colour and it didn't have a fan,

The only thing that should NOT heat up during charging is your lipo,

It should remain normal temp throughout charging,

The charge leads may get Luke warm though,

Get yourself a lipo bag to charge your lipos in while placing your battery order,

There are nothing wrong with zippy lipos at all, they are real good lipos,

The build quality is fantastic,

Hope you enjoy your first run with a brushless truck,

Thanks.. All seems good then. Though it's taking a long time.. Over 100 minutes so far.. The battery is cool.

And yeah, the chatger is a rebadge of the Imax B6AC...

I'm going to return the two Nvisions, and buy a 3s and 2s Zippy 5000 30C, and the Hobbywing program card.. Also need adaptors for the Zippies to Deans.

So, cut-off at 120 minutes.. Cells at 4.10,4.13, 4.16, and 4.20. Normal?

Second battery charging now.. Those cells look to be closer. All within .1 or .2 of 3.90 or so..

echthelion 12-25-2012 07:32 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

nope not normal they should all be 4.20v

sounds to me like the charger has a 2hour safety timer if it stoped at 120min on the dot

id turn it off if your keeping watch on your lipos theres realy no need for it

HerrSavage 12-25-2012 07:47 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

So what do you do - just leave it on forever til they're all 4.20? I've had it on for another hour, and one is at 4.20, and the others all going back and forth from 4.11-4.14.... Edit - 80 minutes into the second round, the one (second) is at 4.20, and other three are all at 4.13, periodically blipping up or down .1...

ps: rain...

HerrSavage 12-25-2012 11:14 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

Well, after about six hours, the other three are all at 4.18-4.19... - and still working on 4.20..

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

ok question this first 2 hour charge was it after a run of the car? i only ask being a few post back you were told you can run it.

its fine if you did im just assuming that the 2 hour charge was after a run. and that would be why it hit the safety timer (if it did)

now if that 2 hour charge was before a run it could of been still a safety timer stoping it but it should not take 2 hours to charge from a storage level</p>

no stop charging if you had the battery on another 80min and its still not reading 4.20v. do you have a 2nd way to read the battery volts? a cell checker

unfortunately i don't have the knowledge to help anymore as it sounds like somthing else then a safety timer problem

hope for one of the smart guys read this soon for you http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...used_smile.gif

EDIT: just saw your post saying the 4.18/4.19v whats the amps the charger is putting into the battery? my charger near the end of a charge reduces the amps till its full. maybe your cells were realy out of balance and the charger is slowy bringing the other 3 up

HerrSavage 12-25-2012 11:28 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

No, never ran it - new battery. Almost six hours now, and all reading 4.19. with the one at 4.20.

The amperage (or whatever..) has been 0.0 - 0.1 for the vast majority of the time...( since after the forst two- hour cutoff anyway..)

echthelion 12-25-2012 11:35 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

what did the cells read before you started charging?

HerrSavage 12-25-2012 11:38 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

Forget.. I think 4.07 or so...

Just took it off. All reading 4.20 with slight blips down to 4.19 here and there(and the one which was at 4.20 the whole time sometimes showing 4.21 briefly..) Took about six hours. Again, very low energy going in, no heat anywhere(charger was warm the first two hours or so..). Seems like it's just been balancing since then..

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

I'd say your charger is not very well calibrated,

Some can be calibrated some cannot,

HerrSavage 12-25-2012 11:49 AM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

The second (identical) lipo had much tighter figures. There also WAS juice going in, just very very little..(like 000250 over the second two hour period, and 000150 or something for the last 100 minutes til I turned it off..) Again, as if it were balancing with really low levels of charging..

sparky 25 12-25-2012 12:04 PM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

I would definitely get a cell voltage checker like the one I linked earlier,

Then you will know if the charger is off or the lipo is off,

I've never had a lipo not properly balanced after 50mins charge,

Your lipos should balance and be fully charged within this time.

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

I've just read your other posts,

To be honest 0.01 or 0.02 is not a huge difference,

Just set your lvc and go run your truck.

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

non helpful post but this is where electric can suck imo IF theres somthing wrong most of the time your just SOL like when i had 2 ESC bad out of the box and when i had a lipo puff.  maybe it was just me but i had more of a learning curve with electric then nitro.  with nitro all i realy needed to understand was how to work to needles. now with that said i realy enjoy electric and im looking into a 3rd electric rc lol

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

The first time your charger stopped did it make a bleeping sound?

HerrSavage 12-25-2012 12:12 PM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

Yeah - but as far as I can tell only because it hit the 120 minute cutoff point.

Maybe the charging is just really low at the "lipo balance" setting?..

No need to set the LVC on the ESC. The default setting according to the manual is 3.2....

Barring (more .) rain, I'll test 2moro.. Next worry is the mesh ha ha... We'll see.. Feels really notchy, but I guess flashlight motors are just like that...

sparky 25 12-25-2012 12:21 PM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

I'd say that when your charger bleeped it was indicating fully charged,

I'm pretty sure if there was any issues with the charging or time limit it would have been displayed on the charger LCD,

Notchy sound just right on gearmesh with these flashlight powered RC's

Let us know how your first run goes, enjoy.

HerrSavage 12-25-2012 12:24 PM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

The charger comes preset with a 120-minute cutoff setting.. The beeping was just the timer. The first lipo was 4.10-4.20 at the beep, the second 4.18-4.20.. Both times the second cell was the only one constantly reading 4.20....

sparky 25 12-25-2012 12:27 PM

RE: The Official Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 thread

Coincidence @ 120 mins or not I'd say that your lipos are fully charged,
