why aren't there more non-rtr versions?

as i've said in previous posts, i'm just getting back into r/c. i see that most of today's mt's are rtr. i wouldn't have problem w/ that b/c it gets more people into the hobby and saves time and money for people. however, i wish more were offered unassembled w/ no engine or electronics, well especially electronics

i dig the lst and looks to be great out of the box, but i want to choose my own servos, radio and maybe even engine. plus i want to put it together myself so i can make sure it is how i want it, plus i learn the vehicle better.

i'm considering a savage ss b/c i can put in my radio and i have to assemble it

I agree, i think we need more kits. However, the majority rules, and i think its safe to say these companies are giving new meaning to RTR. Look at the new Revo, it gives you a nimh pack, and a charger, and im sure it will come with a start up DVD like the maxx does. The LST comes with a synth radio, and high torque metal gear servos. While it would be nice to pick and choose what you want in these kits, its hard to complain about them giving us more and more in them. Right now the LST and Revo are priced incredibly low for what they come with. Sell the radio equipment if you dont want it, and buy what you do want. Assembling the kits are fun, but not a necessity for me. With the maintenance these high speed monsters require, you'll have it apart within a week or two anyway.

Not enough demand is my guess. And RTR is the best way to get new people in. Once your in then your hooked. It's great either way. But I think the main reason RTR took off is because of the ease of use factor. Oh yea LST don't ask why just gotta say it.
