Stampede Help!!
 

I just purchased my first monster truck and it is the electric Stampede. I get about 6 to 8 mins of run time after which it starts going forward out of control I have to run after it. It that normal? And also the motor gets very HOT!!

Is there an alternative because I really like the truck?

Your battery is probably dead. When it doesn't respond quickly to radio inputs just stop it, discharge then recharge your battery. If you're running a mechanical speed control & the resistor is getting hot that's normal. If your motor is getting hot then you might need to switch to a different pinion gear.

Good choice on on your truck. I loved my Stampede & REALLY regret selling it.

How long should you be able to run the truck on a fully charged battery? Also what's the best charger for the batteries? I am using DYNA-FUN 1500MAH 6-CELL NI-CD PACK. What is the speed control?

The reason is ur mechanical speed control. Get a electronice speed control (esc) and u will be much better off.

The higher the Mah of the battery, the longer the run time.

Yes upgrade your msc to a esc it is possibly the best hopup for any truck.

You might also want to upgrade you battery pack if your good at solderign get a set of loose matched cells if not then there are many makers out there that will help you to get a quality pack for you.If you get a esc that can handle 7 cells you run time will increase greatly.

I use a super rbain 959 itr works great for me and isnt hard on your wallet.

i had a stampede too and the motor got hot for me too, but it didnt realy matter.
i wouldnt realy worry about going out and buying an esc for it, its fine without it.
i got about 10 mins runtime with the stockstinger 20 turn motor.
if you want a longer runtime get a battery with more mah's as jefx said.
i sold my stampede cause of the low runtime which was stupid.
i should've bought more battery packs as my charger only took 15 min to charge.
ah, those were the good old days, getting home from school,
charging the battery, running down to the nearby oval running home 10 mins later, charging,
running back down to the oval, running back 10 mins later, and i did that all arvo :D.
o well its gone now[&o]

The speed control is the device that controls the voltage going to your motor. As far as how long a battery can last, it depends on how you drive it. If you drive at full throttle all the time it won't last as long as it would if you feather the throttle. A battery with higher maH will last longer than one with lower maH. Your battery is low on the spectrum but your run times sound about right. You probably don't want to dish out the ca$h for the best charger. Just about any 15 minute 6-7 cell charger would be fine for what you're doing. If you do want to upgrade look at peak chargers. They don't run on a timer. They charge until your battery is holding as much juice as possible.

unless your wide open all the time your run time will increase by going with a ecs.thats one of the good reasons to go with one.
