I know that they work great in planes, but never heard of it in cars.

RE: Diesel RC!

I tryed it with a os .12 cv engine and it had awesome power. It accelerated like crazy. My problem was that I couldn't get the carb settings right and it overheated after about 5 minutes. I also had a very hard time starting it for the same reason.
Then I couldn't start it and I think it was because the fuel went bad. The fuel has to be tightned real hard so that the ether wouldn't escape. I only tightned it with my hand because then I wasn't able to open it.

I will try it again if they come with a convertion for a .21 engine that has some kind of electric start available.

Wait. I dont follow. So you use the same engine you have just a different head and fuel?

I tried to put a Diesel engime in my RC car but it was way to big. I wil stick to the much smaller nitro engines thank you.

RE: Diesel RC!

You use your exsisting engine tho... just I different head.... How is it to big?

RE: Diesel RC!

I don't know what engine you used but like I said I used an OS .12 nitro engine. I bought the head at ebay for 16 bucks, saved myself about fourty bucks, instead of ordering it from davisdiesel. When I bought the head I didn't even have the engine so I bought it a used one for .25 bucks to try it out. I ordered the diesel from Davis Diesel.

Oh Yeah you just change the head to convert it to diesel. The OS .12 cv is the only engine that for cars that I could find a head to convert to diesel. I don't know of any other.

RE: Diesel RC!

Oh ok... So you can't just use a stock engine?

joe78586 06-19-2004 10:56 AM

RE: Diesel RC!

IF you can find a diesel head to convert it then yes but like I said, the only diesel head made for a car was the one for the OS .12 cv

RE: Diesel RC!

Oh, i tried one out of a rig. It was way to big, almost 100 ties the size of my rc car.

RE: Diesel RC!

Oh, and so you use actual diesel fuel from a gas station? So then you have to mix some 2-stroke oil in it like a dirt bike?

joe78586 06-19-2004 05:03 PM

RE: Diesel RC!

No the diesel for this little engines is a combination of ehter, castor oil, and uhh .. something else I can't remember right know.

RE: Diesel RC!

diesel fuel is kerosone and oil.

madblunted 06-19-2004 08:33 PM

RE: Diesel RC!

i would guess you would have to get number 1 diesel and maybe add your choice of oils to it. #1 has less oil than regular diesal. or what you put in a pick up truck.

RE: Diesel RC!

I am talking about diesel fuel for rc's not an actual full sized truck. And its ether, castor oil, and kerosene which are used to make diesel fuel for rc engines converted to diesel.
