General ride height, suspension questions.
Hey all. I have basic questions about ride height and suspensions..
1) When people talk about ride height, are they actually talking about ground clearance? Increase ride height = more ground clearance? If that is NOT right and if ground clearnce is fixed, then dont u wanna go as low as possible to go stable? 2) Why change ride height and how? 3) When people say tune suspension, are they talking about tuning shocks? Like quality of oil, springs etc? angle of shocks (wider/more angle = softer? and more towards 90degrees = harder)? 4) What are some of general rules for going harder or softer shocks? 5) What are spacers used for? Thanks a lot guys..!! |

Ya, more ride height = more ground clearance. You can increase right height by adding the preload clips to the shocks or turning the threaded colars depending on what type of shocks you have. For racing you want it low for a lower center of gravity so it won't roll over in turns as easily. If where you are running is very rough or you are doing big air jumps, you'll want the ride height a little higher, but not so high that it is sitting at maximum height. For tuning the suspension, that can include shock springs, shock oil, shock position, camber, caster, toe, ackerman adjustments, and rocker arms for Revos. As for going harder or softer for the shocks, that depends on where you are running. A softer suspension will allow you to float thru the rough stuff without the truck getting out of shape. A stiffer suspension will give less body roll and resist bottoming out on larger jumps.
