I've had both, and actually converted the nitro sport over to the nitro rustler. The dimensions of both cars are the same, use the same transmission, wheels, bearings, etc. The major differences are chassis (full aluminum on the rusty and 50/50 aluminum and plastic on the sport), engine (the 2.5 is more powerful than the pro .15), and the bellcrank steering on the Rusty (More forgiving steering system, less bump steer, and easier on the servo). The direct steering works okay on the nitro sport, but hit something hard enough and it'll take out the servo and the servo saver. The bellcrank system has more "give" and is more accurate than direct steering.

Nitro rustler handles better, is faster, and is stronger overall than the nitro sport. IMO, The rusty is the better truck.

I can't help you with the best deals online, the one I got now I got for $20 and had to put some parts into it to get it running. If you're not new to RC, getting a used one and doing some work to it is the better way to go cost-wise, but new is nice too since you know whats been done (or not done) to it.

I love my Rusty. The last rusty I had was the one I converted from the sport chassis. That one was set up good for bashing, but someone stole it. The one I have now is almost as beefed up as my original, but still a blast. I will always have a Rustler. They're a good fail-safe RC car, IMO.

The steering setup on the nitro sport sucks (direct drive). Without a doubt the Rustler with its bellcrank steering and full aluminum chassis plate is just flat out better. The sport and rustler share a lot of the same parts, but for the price of it, the rustler is worth the extra money. Don't get me wrong, the Sport will work okay, but is not as strong of a basher. That's why I converted the chassis over to the N.Rusty. Either one is fun to drive though.

Also - the 2.5 is an okay engine, a vast improvement over the Pro .15, but the 3.3 is a real powerhouse. . I use the 3.3 exclusively in m Rusty.

Good luck!

ive had a nitro sport (thus my name) the rusty .15 and the rusty 2.5
The speed of the 2.5 is a fair bit better.
As mentioned, the chassis of the rusty is also better.

I once bought a AS IS rustler .15 off ebay for $45 shipped. When I got it, the motor was locked up....couldn't turn it over at all. disassembled it, soaked in PB blast overnight, reassembled it and added my radio and was driving it the next day.

Both are a fairly simple stadium truck design, which is both durable and not hard to work on.

If buying new, might as well spend the extra on the rustler.

Might also wanna consider the nitro slash. Its a rustler with a longer wheelbase, the 3.3 engine and a slash wheel/body. Longer wheelbase should mean it will handle that much better.
