Default FIRESTORM CLUTCH PROBLEMS

Hi
I was wondering if a broken clutch spring would cause my car to rev up and not be able to tune properly. I have been having a problem with this car from the day I have bought it.
Let me tell u what it does. Firstly it starts up from the factory settings. The idle screw(gap) is about 1-1.5mm but the car revs up like crazy. From that point I am not sure what to do. I tried leaning (HSN) it out and it just revs up even more.If I to richen it it just bogs out.
I have decided to strip the engine and seal as it may have an air leak(sucking in air). Upon stripping I found that the clutch spring is broken.
Could this be the reason for my problem?
I have sealed the engine as per a forum online on how to seal a RC engine. Just waiting for a new clutch to arrive.
My car details are: HPI Firestorm 10T G3.0 engine

Thanks
