EZ Start Won't glow Plug
Nitro rustler
I was driving my rustler today and it started to rain, on the way back home from the park I may have hit a puddle or 2. As the conditions continued to change my car stalled. I was thinking it stalled because of the 15 degree change in temp and because of all the other weather conditions that changed with the temp. But now I'm home and checking the car and the ez start won't glow any glow plugs. It lights both lights when I touch the plug to the head, but never glows. I've tried 3 different plugs. 2 worked yesterday and 1 is brand new. What could of happened? What am I missing

I'd suggest chucking the glow plug and ground lead from the harness and use a standalone glow driver. I actually chucked the EZ Starter on my Traxxas trucks and went to pull starters. Much easier IMO.

Ground wire is fine. I'm so confused. And the battery is charging at the moment, sure didn't spin the engine like it was dead. I've heard somewhere that the battery has to be near 100percent for the ez start to work. That sounds like bul to me but I'll check

That's probably not far off - as far as battery capacity/charge status, but not 100% the case. A 1000mAh battery won't run the system nearly as well or for as long as a 3000mAh pack will. The glow plug requires 3 amps to light properly, plus the starter motor requires a chunk of power. As a system, you're trying to pull 4A or better which a weaker pack may not be able to do very well for very long. I would suggest trying to power just the glow plug through the EZ system - disconnect one wire from EZ starter motor. If the plug glows this way (connect base of plug to crankcase to ground it) but not with the system connected (starter motor), then your battery may not have the discharge capability to heat the plug and start the engine at the same time.

Even at 1.3v the plugs don't really glow. I can see smoke come off them with a drop of fuel added. But I don't know how people see their plugs glow at 1.2 Volts, I went up to 2.4 volts before I could really see the plug glow

3 amps at 1.2 volts makes the glow plug glow bright orange. If you don't see bright orange with whatever power supply you're using, it's not supplying enough amperage. At the proper amperage, 2.4 volts will burn the plug out. A single AA battery does not supply enough current to light a plug very well - especially if it's a rechargeable. Try a new C cell or D cell.
It sounds like the glow plug circuit of your EZ Start wand crapped out. I'd suggest a purpose built glow driver with a good/new NiCD or NiMH sub-C cell.
