Default XXX-NT Receiver pack.. LiFe/lipo options

Okay I have 2 xxx-nts that I'd like to get running. These trucks had the 5 cell hump packs for the receivers. One has a 2.4ghz radio system and the other I threw an old school 27hz Traxxas system into it. Since the nimh packs are on their way out, anyone know my options? After some reading some people gamble with the LiFe packs without regulators/diodes and run them for years without toasting their servos.

How big (capacity) should I get? I'd like to run more than 2 tanks of fuel back to back.
What do you think will fit? I'm open to other options if you think its better/easier.
What charger is good enough? Is this too much? I'm probably buying this much charger in hopes of getting another electric in the future but I'm itching to get my trucks running.
I was thinking this for a charger: The Advantage One Duo AC/DC charger... part number ORI30243 going for 80 bucks on that Horizon Hobby site....

The battery I'm thinking is this
reedy-66v-1900mah-pro-life-flat-receiver-pack-p-asc27316 from Horizon Hobby...

I think that'll fit the box The 5 cell nimh packs are
Length: 1.96" (50mm)
Width: 1.14" (29mm)
Height: 1.22" (31mm)

Most importantly how do I wire up a regulator/diode? Do ( even throwing me a link ) It seems like a discussion that never ends. I've read tons of threads on different message boards and it ends with people saying the other person is wrong. I understand the world isn't black and white but I'd rather not fry a servo if I don't have to.
If I've left anything out let me know. Thanks in advance!
