If ya can afford it and find it go with steel or titanium gears.... Definity get the Alum clutch shoes... Otherwise melt city. My schumacher fusion can melt clutch shoes like butter on 30% nitro...

Do you have the 3.0 RTR or the old RTR with the T15?
If the question was for me, I'm got the old T15. had the truck for less than a month and HPI goes and release the G3.0 [:@]
Then unless you bought it used and someone put the heavy-duty final years in it you have the cheap pot metal gears.

Trust me the rear exhaust is LOUD!!!! But it works great! Keeps everything clean. Try it on an Axial .32 and you will feel like you have been shooting a .45 all day!!
SavageonNOS do you have a HPI MT not taking about the Savage? Here we are not talking about the Savage but the HPI MT 4 wheel drive stadium truck! The race carbon shoes work well in the MT. If you want more power then you can stand and a drive train eating motor no need to get a big block the OS 18 TZ works great and has as much HP as my big blocks and you do not have to covert the engine mount set up. I have among others both a MT and Savage.

The T 15 is a poor engine might work but if you ever run a good engine you will see. I never owned a T 15 but worked on 3 of them for friends.

I know I got the cheap final gears. What I was referring to is the gears inside the diff. thats what I broke in addition to stripping the final diff gear and pinion. my remark about the 18ss and RTR was the gears inside the diffs (spider gears or something like that.) but these appear to be the same.

Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part but yes the gears in the diff cup are the same on both the RTR and SS. One day when I get around to it I am going to try and see if I can make the diffs on the MT 4 gears like on the Savage and my Hyper 8.

Tell me about it, I'm in the same boat. I must have gotten the last mt2 at Tower hobby. I ordered mine and a day later it showed it as discontinued and had the G3.0 listed! Now my mt2 is 2 months old and I have the OS 18 CV-RX in and it helps forget the bad memories of the T-15. I have no idea how the G3.0 engine is, but they had it in the firestorm when they released it, now it's in the new version of the MT. Someone who has/had one should report on it for us. I'm curious about it myself, though I have no intention of getting one.

I'm not mad, the T-15 is a beginners motor, I start it and it runs until it gets to hot then I notice the motor loosing its speed. I just keep running it with hopes that the motor goes then I would have to get it replaced . thats my master plan. so far, its held up to the abuse I've given it.

So I guess when I broke my diff gears, it was a fluke.

No hard feelings, you're a great help here for us new guys and I thank for you that. keep up the great work.

No problem, I one time or should I say a person I let run my MT messed up a set of beveled gears in mine when they landed on a big rock. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] I do not know for fact but I bet the OS 18 CV-R is a much better engine then the HPI 3.0. Sorry to say to date HPI has never made a great small block.

These are the ones I like and run but are expensive but strong and more mounting holes to the chassis.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCLR3&P=Z

I would think they would work with the 3.0 as most small blocks have the same mounting pattern. They do make some cheaper ones but could not find them off hand.

hey everyone im thinking about buying an mt2 I have 480$ to spend the truck is 392$ tax included. I want to know how durable they are and how reliable they are, meaning gears, engine drivetrain. anything they are notorious for, or anything I should upgrade first. I will mostly be bashing not racing. also I will need a 7.2 volt pack for the rotostart and I was wondering how much they are for a decent one. also I was wondering about a receiver pack? do the batteries wear out fast? is it recomended to get one? all in alll I am wondering if it is a good truck for durability and reliability(I dont really care about speed but it helps) sorry for all the questions but I dont get this kinda money everyday(teenager) so I wanna make the right choice.
thanks for any help

I hear the diffs are notorious for shreading, except for knowing that, 46U and the others can fill you in

^^^^ not the new diffs
especially with the t-15 or the new 3.0

now an .18 cv-rx or especially an 18 tz will shred them w/o alloy diff cases

but when the mt2 is stock it should not have too many problems(occasional crash now and again)
[&:]
btw which model of the mt2 are you planning on getting

Thought I'd share some pics of my "new and improved" mt2. Just added CVDs and switched out my HD clutchbell for a racing one. I also took the plastic bushings out and replaced them with bearings in the steering assembly. Amazing the difference the CVDs and steering bearings make, they remove almost all the play from the steering and drivetrain. I expected the play to be lessened, but the difference is much more than I had guessed. The only other things I need now are a HD servo for the steering and perhaps the alloy shocks, I hear they are nice. I can't wait to go out and get it filthy again tomorrow. I had no time after the installation of the new stuff tonight. Thanks to 46u for the prodding to get the CVDs and finish hardening my drive train. This forum rocks! Get out there and get em dirty!

I still run the stock plastic MT 2 shocks, as I do not have a problem with them. If you get alloy shocks the only ones I would consider are the HPI!

Yes my Hyper 8 wing mounts look similar and is why I was asking and if so the front mounts must have been cut off.

Wonder if this is what he is using?

stadium freak: idk but i think that they would fit but not work unless the idle speed is increased because i would think that they lock in at a higher rpm. btw yaul would http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPNC1 body work? on the mt2? its only a inch or so longer
