RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
The GPM shocks have thicker bodies and heavier springs the the HPI. The are very sturdy shocks. I've had good luck with all of the GPM parts Ive used. I dont think you will be dissappointed.

anybody have experience with hpi vs. gpm aluminum threaded shocks? the gpm's are a lot cheaper so im wondering if the hpi's are better.

Well.. I snapped another a-arm the other day and decided to send RPM an e-mail to see if there was any plans for the MT2 in there future and thought you guys might like to see what they wrote back:
ME:
Hello, Just wondering if there were any plans in the works for the hpi MT2? There is a thread on rcuniverse.com (Official HPI MT2 Thread) that is over 840 pages long and full of MT2 owners who would love to have the option of having RPM f/r a-arms. The stock plastic ones are no good for some one who likes to bash, I have broken two sets myself and wasn't even that hard at it, I have also herd alot of people say that the lower screw that holds the steering knuckle in place always strips out, probably another issue due to inferior plastics. I did not personally experience this because I replaced mine with aluminum because there was no other option, If RPM had been an option I would have gone with those, heck I own 2 Savages a rustler and T-Maxx which all have RPM lower a-arms and I also have various other RPM parts on all of them. Anyway... it's starting to sound like I'm sucking up so just keep up the good work and +1 for the HPI MT2 parts!!!
RPM:
Thank you for your confidence in RPM products. We try our best to make the most rugged and durable products and at reasonable prices and it is always a pleasure to hear from end users such as yourself that appreciate the efforts we place into each and every part we build. Thank you for noticing!
Thank you for sending us your RPM product suggestions for a-arms and carriers for the HPI MT2 as well. Unfortunately, there aren't any plans for either of those parts just yet. However, I will be sure to forward your suggestions on to our product development department, although I'm afraid I have no idea if, nor when we may be able to produce them, if at all. Please continue to be patient with us and with a little luck, hopefully we'll have something for you in the not too distant future.
Take care and thank you for your interest and support of RPM products. If you have any other questions or comments, please feel free to send us another e-mail.
Seems like a pre written response but it is a response no the less and It was sent the next day.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
thanks a bunch keithjv!
i think the problem is that the truck doesn't really fit into most tracks' race classes. personally im gonna have to run mine in the nooby class, which is fine with me cus ive never raced before, but it means less people bought them over the years. im kinda surprised that 4wd st never became popular, ive driven a couple 2wd st and a big 4wd mt and can honestly say i have the most fun with this truck.

Oh i forgot about that most tracks run 2 wheel drive and not 4 but i mean all the same i,m sure if the front dog bones were taken off it could compete i like the way it handles well at least to my liking a find it easy to control once you get the hang of the throttle break and steering my truck rocks with the 3.3 trx in it lol

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
yeah that would work, as long as your track doesn't have a problem with it (which they shouldn't). its just a bit heavy to race against other 2wds i think.
im rockin the o.s. 18cv. and loving it. such a torquey motor, it really does well in the mt2. i can't wait for my gpm aluminum to get here from hong kong so i can actually get this thing going again.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
did rear wheel drive before on it. Doesn't handle that well due to the weight distribution IMO.
But ya 4wd ST's didn't catch on maybe due to 1/8th scale buggies being a similar size.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
yeah that makes sense. my favorite thing about it is that its so versatile. good as a basher or a track racer (assuming there are people driving something you can race against). I have plans to have a ton of set ups for mine: racing, all-terrain bash, sand dune, on-road, etc. but i think most people like going with a more specialized vehicle.

I put my dsm radio in the battery box and put the battery where the receiver was with a wire tie downthat mounts where the two gold screws are in the pics. I wishI could have used the oldreceiver box cover.Down in the corner of the battery box you can see the heading hold gyro. I don't drive too well and it keepsthe car where I point it under power. I have twoengines for it, a .32 collariand a Nitro star s25.

nitrokillr, you are putting the battery in the wrong place. It should go next to the servo and the receiver goes where you have the battery pack.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
The spektrum antenna is very short to go from the reciever box to the antenna post on the battery box. My battery didn't fit in the battery box. Also I wanted to move some weight forward to offset the weight of the big block motor. I should make a better hold down for the battery. It came loose one time, but that was a cartwheeling crash from about 50mph. I also like to keep the reciever/gyro in there to protect them from water.

Got the new body on and tossed the Blitz wheels and hexes on there just for fun.
Waiting on steering "pilot shafts" to come off backorder and she'll be RTR.
Maybe they'll let me run it as a 4X4 nitro SCT at the track lol.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
nice truck m8!
any1 know how to improve the turning circle on an mt2 (apart from a better servo)?
heard good reports from the GPM alloy steering assembly, can any1 confirm?
thanks
btw, thanks for the responses on getteing a hump pack into an mt2.
its a pack like nitrokillr's, so may look at swapping reciever & pack over

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
personally i would go with one of these if you want to upgrade steering:
[link=http://www.asiatees.com/display.php?HPI-Nitro-MT-2-Parts-Hop-Ups-Upgrades&brand=HPI&model=Nitro%20MT%202&id=407&pid=1]GPM steering[/link]
the collars are made out of Delrin, a brand of polyoxymethylene. i just did a report on that stuff for my materials engineering class, and its intense. super strong polymer (plastic) with a very low friction coefficient (0.25).

I still have a set in similar shape from my 1st MT1 that I bought used. I actually glued them to a new rim set cause the old rims were breaking.
I swear the original pro-line dirt-hawgs seemed to never wear out, and had damn good grip.

+1! Dirt Hawgs are my alltime favorite ST bashing tire!
Never wear out unless you are just roasting the tires on pavement with an RC10GT..
And wheelies on pavement with the GT no problem!
Here's a bald one from roasting em with a stock O.S. .12

Braking strength. There is only one pad so you dont have the front rear balance.
This is the setup I use for my throttle/brake set up
