Default engine showdown

Ok, I am looking for a new engine for my rush, and I would kind of like a .18. I am currently looking at the Hot bodies .18, and also the team Orion Wasp. Is there anything about these engines that people have experienced? Good things, bad things, etc. Thanks

I would not recommend the Hot Bodies engine because of their lack of performance. If your on a budget then this engine would be good but would but out the same amount of power as an inexpensive .15. The Team Orion seems like a good engine and also I find they make good quality products. If the price is right for you, then I would recommend it. Also there is the EPIC .18 which has a good reputation. Everyone I know who has it loves it because it is easy to tune and gives high RPMs aswll as power. It will cost $140.

Thanks for the reply. I have 2 more questions though. If I get the orion .18, which carb should I get? It's a 5 dollor difference in price, and I read somewhere that one type is better thatn another. Also, If I were to get a .18 (my other option is maybe an o.s. .15), would a .15 pipe work with a .18? I know with larger engines, it is best to get the pipe that is designed for your displacement, but with 12 of a cc would it matter? Anyways, Thanks a lot for the info canadianracer. Any more answers/comments?

You said that you are putting a new engine in a Rush which is off-road. You should use a rotary carb in an off-road because slide carbs are very touchy and in a 2WD truck, you would be spinning out and you would have a very hard time controlling it. Also I think the Rush is already set up for a rotary carb engine.

A .15 pipe will work on a .18 or even a .12 because they all are based on a small block. You should use a pipe designed for a small block off-road.

Yea but if you look at the pipe from a AE (thunder tiger) .15 and match it to other "quality" small blocks the port on the AE are about half the size. Just make sure that the size of the exhaust on the block matches up with the header. If its too small then you will see a lack in power cause you will be blocking off the exhaust flow.

Also I just purchased a Wasp .18 and it was only $80 bucks with shipping.... nib. You really cant beat that. Just my .02

actually most small block side exaust engines have the same size exaust hole. but i do know that the fantom .18's are circular so i dont know. any pipe will fit just be sure to get the right header.

I think a good .15 would be just as good as that orion if not better.
