Anyone have experience with this engine? Is it powerful?

It is incredibly weak for todays standards. It also runs really hot. You will probably find a better engine for the price.

It's in a truck I'm buying for parts and I thought I'd run it for a bit. Guy says it's had 1/2 gallon of Blue Thunder 20% through it...just thought I'd ask, he also made it a point to note that the engine never ran hot.

rccars 411 is right that you can prob. find a better engine, but I have had pretty good luck with mine through a couple of rebuilds, and then purchased another after the crank bearings were toast, and a crack in the block. I also agree that the engine in stock form is pretty choked, but with some porting/polishing, it runs pretty respectably. Mine runs well at 220 to 240 degrees. I think it is just fine for bashing, but the powerband is maybe a little peaky for racing.

the SPD is also a pullstart engine...that's what my dad's got in his boat
it's a good motor, but MHO you're better off with a .12 CV-R

I know, i said that they should. They updated the Mach .15, so why not the .12? Mach .15 is like 140 bucks and the .12 is around 50 bucks... quite a difference, plus the .12 is getting out of date to the point where they should discontinue it.

Well, Like I said, It's in a truck I'm buying off ebay for spare parts and it has the .12 in it so It doesn't really matter. I just thought I'd ask

Well, if you do want a NEW engine, I guess this is "good news" to you. From what I have been told by companies, is that they are all in R&D on new mills. OS has their latest completed and stocking up, the .12 TZ. Orion and Odonnell engines are next!

You'll have to bring the heat up to nearly dangerous levels to get it to perform at a .12 cv's standards.
