You have seen em on TV anybody ever use one.

I just picked one up at Radio Shack. I had an antenna wire fall apart on my RS300 in my Savage 4.6 SS.

The salesman at radio shack said theres is the same one on TV it comes of the same assembly line it just has been rebranded with there name.

I just used it to put on a new antenna wire and I must say I am impressed.

I've seen the commercials, and thought that it looked pretty neat...Thanx for the opinion. I just might pick one up for myself, now.
I don't do alot of soldering, but it would be nice to have one avail. when needed. I have used a propane torch to heat up a steel punch to solder stuff before. That looks quite a bit easier, and quicker.

They supposedly work pretty good for small jobs, but you nedd rechargable batteries for it. Anyway i will stick with my weller station instead.

Helll ya I like the old ones. I have a old weller soldering gun that heats up to 100/120 Watts. ive burned myself a handfull of times its a rushhhh. I use it for soldering a lot of things, most of the smaller jobs i use a radio shack 15/30 watt soldering iron. Soldering is a good hobby.

be very careful soldering electronics with those. i've heard reports of it seriously damaged IC's, as it uses current to heat, there is a very high chance of sending a large amount of current around the circuit board...

I have one of those cold heat irons and am far from impressed with it, OK for very small jobs, but it's useless for the stuff I normally have to solder.

those things suck! I have one and the tip broke the second time I used it. regular soldering iron is best.

Its much cleaner then my standard iron. Yes the tip is to large to get in tight places but it does the job well, and you dont burn yourself or your working area.

I will use it every chance I get. My older solder iron might see some dust now.

Gotta have the beer and cigs handy for a break down. Makes the job funner ;-).

ya ive used one before and i didnt really like it, i use the good old soldering irons

if you hate to wait for a regular soldering iron to heat up, just get one of the gun type irons. you can find them on sale at radio shack occassionally, and they work great! i use that for most of my larger stuff (wires and such), just pull the trigger and it is ready to solder in about 2 seconds.

as far as soldering stuff on a circuit board, the best is still the cheapest radio shack iron you can buy, 15 watts and GROUNDED, most soldering irons aren't....

i've used one and out in the field they work great but if im at home i use the corded of course but when no elctric is around its a life saver .... my buddy has a butane one and when i can i use his that thing is awsome but hes a mechanic and uses almost daily so he payed like $150 for it

I just bought 2 of them. Whan I ordered them on the 800 number they offered the Pro Commercial model for additional $10. I was excited to order them 1 as a gift for my brother and the other for myself. They claimed the Pro model was good for home wiring up to 12 guage. I got it last week. WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried everything and they won't work. I noticed that they don't offer a satisfaction guarentee. I started the phone calls to the company Cold Heat. They don't answer the phone with anything but an answering machine. They don't answer emails. I finally resorted to a complaint to the Credit card co. They agreed to help. The garbage is on it's way back.
After researching the product ratings I found a vast majrity of owners unhappy with the device. I suggest that if you want to try the thing buy it from a retail outlet that would allow you to return it for a full refund. I am still in shock by the fact that a company can market such junk. BUYER BEWARE!!!!! Mike

mine wouldnt even heat up when it was supposed two and i managed to burn myself with it. bigest piece of garbage.

Must be a real knee slapper at Radio Shack for them to sell box loads of their mediocre, overpriced batteries for it.

when i did a science fair project testing batteries i used duracell, energizer, radioshack, and another generic battery, the radio shcak lasted the longest at keeping a bulb going. so i dont know if they are necissarily bad, however i didnt have the time to test it a second time. and overpriced? id imagine they are cheeper than duracell, they were when i did my project anyway.

Yeah I got one and am not very impressed with it. Maybe mine was defective or something but I found that it was very difficult to get it to "light up" had to press pretty hard and naturally the tip is pretty fragile so it chipped within the first couple of uses.

I have a corded iron, and a butane one, I use the butane one the most as it heats up fast and gets nice and hot.

Funny thing about the butane one, I got it from radioshack and as I recall it was really cheap like $10 or so, in addition to the soldering tip it has a torch tip as well which I use frequently on heat shrink.

Anyone know where I can get one from? I checked the Radio Shack web site and didn't see them. I have been looking high and low because my girlfriend use to have for making jewelry and someone took it.
