I can't tell you anything about the MT2 but i have a Jato and i can just say that it is easy to get running, amazingly fast and also ultra durable. I have been jumping it pretty hard and only one broken bellcrank but only because i landed directly on one front wheel. The Jato has many ways to adjust it for jumping, onroad, and offroad. It handles very well also. The stock tires are crap and wear out very fast on the Jato though. Overall the Jato is great and i would recommend it. 4 wheel drive is nice but personally i like the 2wd.

not sure why people are so amped on top speed... it's a nice thing to have but impractical in the end, even while bashing and especially while racing.

i'd get the MT2.

jato's are extremely quick, and yes, pretty durable for the most part, top speed doesn't really matter unless your running on the street or a parking lot, i rarely can hit over 30 with my jato. Maybe traxxas doesn't make tons of hop ups for the jato, but tons of manufacturers make hop ups for it, there's alot of bolt in engines (os, sirio) and you can upgrade pretty much everything to aluminum. IMEX makes awesome wheels too.

kinda 50/50 on it. i own an mt 2 rtr version, which is pretty good. yeah, the SS comes with the .18SS outlaw engine, and pullstarts arent so bad. i've dropped an os .18 cv-rx in it, and top speed is somewhere around 45-48 mph on it when geared and tuned right. durable little truck though, only broke a clutch bell. the 4wd is nice. it all depends on what you want though. some say speed isn't everything, like stevens said, he rarely gets his jato over 30, my mt2 rarely gets over 30-35 either because i'm mostly off road though. but i'd get the jato, only because i already own the mt 2. traxxas makes some stuff too, and there are gonna be quite a few hop ups coming out for the jato too.

Id go mt2 just because HPI is a company you can stand behind, I will never own a traxxas product, I just cant stand to support these people. Their aim is to sell cheap, low quality products (revo is ok, not great but ok) to new customers. Their vehicle specifications are so outrageous it's not even funny. I would go with a trusted name in this hobby such as Team Losi or Hobby Products International.

i'm not going to disagree 100% but i don't know that the MT2 is exactly the numba 1 stunna when it comes to out of the box reliability. it's not the worst but not the best either. i stripped both diffs and broke 2 c-hubs in 1/3 of a gallon around a modest backyard course. now i am a little more in tune with its failure points and i can avoid them much easier, but a newcome may not be very impressed.

i would still take it over a jato.

just wonderin rallyred, do yo have the rtr version of the mt 2 or the ss? true, the rtr version is kinda known for chewing through the diffs. i havent stripped mine yet, but then again, i haven't ran my .18 cv-rx in a lot, only 8 tanks. i usually keep the os .15 cv-x in quite a bit.

RTR. i didn't shim the diffs originally because some people posted that theirs were fine. i learned a lot on the MT2 and ultimately ended up with a burned up .15, so this is kind of round 2 for me.

now i have all new diffs + shims, and am upgrading to a .18 CV-RX [>:]

your gonna love that cv-rx. my friend thought it was going to be slow and not beat his rustler with his trx 2.5. i told him the os stands for Oh Sh*t. and that was the look on his face as his truck was trying to keep up with mine. he said his tires were bald though. but that engine is very good though. the little bolt that holds the carb down on it fell out, so it's back to the os .15 cv-x till my lhs gets it in this saturday.

yeah i'm hoping it's good and torquey. the track i run on is pretty short and technical and i need something to pull the truck out of turns.

the .15 was great once it opened up but off idle it was a turd, i guess from having to turn the front end as well as the rear.

oh and thanks for your review

I'd go MT2 all the way..

what good is a truck that goes 60+ mph or whatever.. who has a track big enough to reach that top end? and the few that do have that much room, who has the room to slow it down? I don't know, the Jato is cool, and I like speed as well as the next guy.. but, what I don't have is a space big enough to warrant a top end speed like that...

besides that, my MT2 flat out ROCKS!!!!

exactly, this is why people don't really respect traxxas. all their "race" trucks are marketed like other companies' bashers.

yeah, mt 2 is more of a mid 40's truck. either way, hit something going mid to high forties, or 60 you'll still break something. i got my mt 2 geared more for excelleration since i have the .15 cv-x in it. gives it a little more off the line. once i drop my .18 cv-rx back in, i'm dropping in a bigger clutch bell and spur gear.

go with the mt2 18. it was my first rc car ever and it was simple to put together. the instructions were easy. just buy it, you wont regreat it. I was in the same situation when I was looking for one. Thought about the Jato... but in the end i read way too many bad things about it! Get the MT2 dude... you will love it.

being a JATO owner, i can tell you it's a great truck. The 2.5 runs like a raped ape when you get it tuned right. Everything is extremely simple to take apart and put back together so maintanance is SIMPLE. The truck is extremely durable from what i found out, i broke it a few times, no big deal, if you look in my profile under GALLERY you'll see why it is i broke it, no ST is supposed to be jumped like that. Plus...if you buy the jato...you will have a JATO...and what's better than that?? a hellfire? seriously tho, just go check the two of em out, and make your decision, with whichever truck you get your gonna be happy!!
