Default Finally I go nova powered.

So ive decided to go and compete this year and go to the state titles in my state ( new south whales ) and also at Queensland. And i wanted a fresh new engine for it. And low and behold i havnt got a blue one, but one with a purple bit at the top, a nova. It's a CX12S2/N so that means its side exhaust; standard plug; and slide carbie, a lot like a CV-R but so far a lot nicer to me .

so first i had to get rid of the pullstart and to do so i had to grind the crankshaft, and while taking it aopart, it seems a lot shinier than the OS but the cuts arent as clean. i notice a few things are beefed up and the ports are angled nicely for excellent scavenging.

First impressions on starting, huge compression, the starter box couldnt turn it over and i had to warm it up first, a LOT.
Once it started it was running with a nice purring idle ( after some leaning and general tuning ) , one thing new to me ( on a 12 ) is a mid range needle. Hmm, well its okay because i have tuned mid range a fair bit before in big blocks.

ATM i have a blown clutch bearing ( due to yesterdays racing ) and i used my last spare so im waiting on express shipping so actual running will be in a few days from now. I have run a few tanks through it now running very rich and at about 3/4 throttle free reving. because its so rich it wont rev hard so its fine. I'll give you guys updates as it goes on.

Any particualr tips on my engine?[&:]

it cost 200 australian ( about the price of aCV-R maybe a lil more).
it seems very reliable, im getting the clutch bearings tomorrow ( thank god for overnight shipping ) but what i do know is it idles ALL day long and will scream as soon as you choose to do so ( but its not as if ive done that yet ). and it starts beautifully every time.
It has super huge bearings and a giant carbie, also the bearings are high quality rubber sealed rather than just leaky stel sheilded.
i can tell you how it runs tomorrow ( i hope ) but it has so freaking much response and torque ( judged by how it jumps when you touch the carbie ).

I'll tell you tomorrow but judging by typical nova quality it should be freaking awesome.

take a cruise around www.novarossi.com and see what you like. the 12's are all under 'onroad engines'.

i getthe bearings this afternoon i hope and i can guarantee you that you will never need an 18 in this engine type this will **** all over any 12 or 15 out there.

Ill tell you all very soon.

yeh im not asking how trhey go i race and always against a feild of 10 novarossi's but i just wanted to know if you knew how they went and yes they are amazingly owerful, so an 18 will not be necessary.

I told you how they went.... They fly!

I have been told and saw that they are very easily tuned and consistant but as nitro %'s are increased they become more picky as to their tune.

yeh that is true. i also find it amazing how few americans use novarossi where in the rest of the world they dominate?

OH, I'm not sure of the amount of Novarossi's around over seas or even the USA for that matter. They are the best engines (IMO) if you are able to provide the cash needed for them. If I had the money I would definitely get one for my car and one for my boat.

wel... i could argue that, the nova based modified's are better such as JP and RB but thats expected they are a worked novarossi.
next step up for me will be a rear exhaust nova based EB mod engine.

Anyway so everyone knows the engine absolutely flies and makes the GT pull huge wheelstands when its not just tearing up the ground. It's sweet highly recommended

i will soon, but it should be. it makes the gt pull the wheels and just keep going on the blue groove here. but thats a fair bit of grip.

Ah okay because if this had of been in Australia it would have been sarcasm since they are everywhere on tracks. But I can give a fairly detailed report now.....

It starts in an instant when it is primed and it will settle to a nice idle even when cold, no typical OS rev it for 10 minutes routine to get it to idle; and its a nice low very smooth idle. It takes only a few minutes to get it to warm up , but i have noticed a few weird things with the tuning.
With an OS im sure we are all used to the top end gets more and more and moe power until it starves of fuel when leaning? Not so with the Novarossi you can tune it to maximum power and then theres still another 1/2 of a turn to starvation, but it you lean it more it will make less power, interesting.....

It has this annoying tendancy to make me run over to it to quickly get the engine to Bottom Dead Centre when its stalled only to realise that it has infact not stalled but settled into the nicest purring idle you've ever heard.

It doesnt have that harsh, 'brahb brahb brahb' sound like the OS it is much smoother 'mveough' sort of sound ( hard to explain i know ). And it is much crisper to the throttle no waiting period for response its instant; and gives me wheelstands when the grip permits, but it usually just spins like hell [>:]. i love it.

It is still not run in to my standards, i still want to get a race meet into it before i decide its run in nicely, then its onto the shelf and back with the OS until the titles.

Im going to compare it to a CV-R now in terms of power. LOW- nova wins MID-nova again MID HIGH-OS HIGH nova.
as you can see the OS only beats it in snap and power coming into powerband, but guess what, its only because the novarossi is smoother and this makes it easier to drive.

Thanks heps Dan for your report.
i can see why its a race engine, because it has really nice low end power.
and thats what you need on a track.

I found that you have to wait until the engine has had about 2L of fuel threw
it, than you can tell if its reliable or not.

Yeh i know thats what im waiting for, im getting my race mix on friday and will be running it more on saturday.

i need to get a race meet or 2 into it before it will get its fuel economy and stop richening itself up. It just throws it over on its ass on any nice longish grass but living in country australia i get nothing on normal grass ( dirt... lol ).

but it starts in an instant every time and idles nice, but its not run in yet. the novarossi instructions are: run for at least 15 mins @ 1/4 throttle then run for at least 1/2 hour @ 1/2 throttle. weird but it seems to have worked nicely.

this engine rocks so smooth , but the tranny doesnt like it and i keep punching it at that 1/3 throttle powerhole the CV-R's have and it just flips lol. ill hafta get used to it.
