I havn't had them long. The xt-r, I had to put street tires on and a modified wheelie bar.Just couldn't get any traction on dirt or grass. But since it hit the steets this thing is Fast, I've got the wheelie bar set so it doesn't wheelie, just squats and goes..

The menace gets great traction in the dirt and grass and havn't had it on street yet.

So, I'm not sure, but I think the xt-r.

It is on-road, with soft tires and a wheelie bar. Wheelies are cool!! but I always end up flipping it somehow, and bend up the axles a bit.

As you said before I am lucky. I have an off-road course in the back of my property. A track and just an open dirt spot thinking of making a giant dirt pile for monster trucks. But as for the menace, I havn't took it to the track just yet only the front yard it has been
a little too muddy lately.

[sm=thumbs_up.gif] The menace is too sweet for the mud. Do you use am or fm radio? Have you had any trouble with steering? as in not turning very sharp?

Usually small pebbles and rocks will cause a gear failure. Something needs to give. Metal gears will just transfer the load elsewhere and break the next part in line. Always make sure the gear mesh is set properly and there shouldnt be any problems. I only strip gears when I throw caution to the wind and drive places I know I should not. I found a new site that seems to only sell Schumacher. Maybe locating parts will no longer be a problem. I might give them a try. www.Schumacher-RC.com

Brent07,

You can only use the high accelaration pinion with the Menace 4x4.

I askek schumacher if the other pinions would work, they said no i tried the stock fusion one anyway. And it didnt work. It wont change up.

davenraithatha,

You have to aline it properly.

Take off the topdeck and then attatch the engine. By doing it this way it will be much easyier to see.

then once you think you have it on straight, role the gears backwards. it should be totally smooth. if you can feel a slight jam every revolution its because its slightly misalined.

I reccomend once you have it on close to the molding and straight the tighten the screws that hold the engine blocks to the chassis to the maximum. Then everytime you need to remove the engine for what ever reason, use the bolts that attatch the engine to the blocks. This way you won't have to bother realining it all the time. It worked for me.

Yes i was still running the stock engine. Its a good engine, not many rev above 38,000.

I emailed Schumacher and asked "Can i fit the other pinions on the Menace 4x4" They simply replied "No".
I asked if using differnt springs would make a differnce and they said no. They said "using a differnt pinion form the stock one will only cause you problems.

I shouldnt think using a differnt engine would make much differnce. Thats one of the reasons why my back plate blew off. (Dont know if you read that thread?) I replaced the stock Menace pinion with the Fusion stock pinion and started using 30% and leaned my engine out as much as i could.

I tested it on a slightly down hill section of my road as well.

What really sucks with the menace IMO is that you are limited about what engine you can fit.
I might message wolfgang anbd see if he has or is up for making a bumpstart menace chassis. I won't hold my breath though, if he hasnt made one by now i don't think he ever will.

And on top of Schumacher refusing to fix design faults and improve on existing models. You will have to go to wolfgang to get some adjustable engine mounts to fit up to a .28 engine.

I wouldnt bother with the 30% if i were you. It ruined both my thunder tiger engines.

I would recomend any 25% fuel. If you get a hold of the Thunder tiger engine instructions. Thunder tiger don't recomend anything over 25% for the engine.

I would guess that engine would be slower than the thunder tiger.
I think that one only revs to 33,000 rpm. although it might have better low end tourqe.

IMO, If your changing engines in your menace. Either get the engine modified. Blade modded a thunder tiger a WOW! it smoked everything, he was very pleased with it! I saw a video of it being used and it smoked every other truck there and i mean with ease!

Or you second option is to get some universal engine mounts from wolfpack so you can fit somthing like a Novarossi 4.6cc 3 port. or an Hpi Nitro star K4.6, Universal engine mounts would turn your menace into a much more versatile truck.

This is one of the reasons why no one owns a Menace. They need somthing simple, a menace needs to be modified but once done it will smoke anything. Everyone agrees its the fastest truck but no one owns one. It's pretty strange isnt it.

Yeah that 38,000 rpm is maximum rpm i think. If you read up about the thuder tiger it says it revs to 40,000 rpm. But for the practical rpm range for the Hoboa is 2.6bhp at 28,000 and the thunder tiger 2.1 bhp at 30,000 rpm.
I'm not positive though. I would guess the Hobao will out accelarate the thunder tiger but the thunder tiger might have a higher top speed? And thats why Schumacher choose the thunder tiger because all there cars are high speed?

I have seen a hoboa go and wasnt overly impressed. I don't think you will notice that much of a peformace rise. I think the only thing is either a modded .21 or a .28 for which you need universal engine mounts. Or get ahold of a menace chassis and flywheel that can be bumpstarted.
